Depends on where you live. I know that in most cities you can get 20+ channels with the right antenna setup.
Towns usually piggyback off of the larger cities, but get fewer (maybe half), and rural areas get even less.

>while not having a 4K TV for all of your Blu-rays, HD-DVDs, most DVDs, D-VHS tapes and modern consoles (except for everything 6th-gen and the Wii)
>>84268303
There's two Sony receivers out there for right now because I saw the top newer one for $4.99 at Goodwill the other day and needed the HDMI ports.
The teevee is some Samsung shit, the DVD/CD Sony on the bottom is a high end DVP S7700 which I don't need at all but it has a motorized faceplate and excellent sound quality for $15 so I jumped on it...the LD is a Pioneer CLD-D503, the Blu Ray is a Panasonic DMP-BD65 and the silver thing is a Panasonic DVD Recorder that I only use to upscale my LDs for modern telly.
On the far right is a Pioneer CD changer and a cassette deck that's not really hooked up yet but I just moved and have too many components so there they sit.

My LaserDisc player is a Pioneer HLD-X9, I just output Composite directly to my Sony D32E1WU BVM and I use a Muse HiVision decoder for Muse HiVision discs (Muse is a weird specification and the decoder is specifically for converting Muse to Component YPbPr 1080i) and it still goes to my BVM.
But let's just say that I'm going to play my LaserDiscs on my 4K TV, what is the best upscaler?
I know this guy on
But I also heard some people say that the XRGB-Mini Framemeister is also a good alternative.
I would still watch my LaserDiscs on my BVM but I am just curious.
I also have a THX 6.1 surround sound setup on my retro game room/home theater #2 (my room with the D32E1WU BVM), and a THX Dolby Atmos/DTS:X 11.2 surround sound setup on my living room/modern game room/home theater #1 (my room with the LG G6 OLED 4K TV).
I also have those Dolby Digital/DTS decoders for LaserDiscs and they sound really great.
My bedroom only has a Samsung CRT and I use the TV's stereo speakers because it's just for quick enjoyment for retro video games if I'm not on my retro game room.

>>84268912
>D32E1WU BVM
jelly af I've got a vintage Sony fetish that is never quenched.
I wouldn't go crazy with upscaling. I got lucky and found out that a DVD Recorder I got for xmas in 2004 that was sitting in my closet had a great 3D "comb filter" feature people were using for upscaling LD players from some forum online. So I took that fucker out and now I go thru it. I've just set it up recently so I've watched like maybe 10 min of a disc on it but it looked noticeably improved over just hooking it straight into the back of the tv. If I had a really good more modern CRT that wasn't RF only I would just use that....
I've got 4 other LD players in the closet because when I first got into them I realized how the mechanisms inside the players were quite intricate and had several of them shit the bed. Now I hoard them from thrift stores just in case one breaks...
>>84262603
should always set up a theater room facing the widest wall.
in that image they could literally have a 3-4x size screen and just put the two couches side by side -.-
>>84269199
The 3D Comb Filter is also present on LaserDisc players with S-Video output.
But according to some, it doesn't look that good so they just play their LaserDiscs in Composite.
LaserDiscs are natively encoded in Composite video, anyways.
And I usually don't use Composite for most of my stuff (I usually use Component or RGB) except for my LaserDisc player and my original Famicom (the colors in the RGB mods look awful and the Famicom was designed to only output Composite video at best).
>>84262603
Is the no singles policy enforced here? Do you get your own robert?
I forgot to mention, I also have an original NES but again, I didn't mod it for RGB but I did mod it with Blinking Light Win and I also added the ENIO Expansion Board.
And I usually play my NES/Famicom games on my Famicom, I rarely use my NES.
And if I want to play my Famicom games in RGB, I just use the Analogue NT Mini since it's really great.
But I still stick with my Famicom in composite.
>>84269302
Yeah S-Video might be worth it for VCR but not LD. I kinda skipped S-Video and mostly just stick with old fashioned composite for everything. I actually plan on going backward for another setup of just 90s Pioneer because I've got a bunch of matching components (minus a good receiver.)
>>84265109
this post is my other shitpile (i cant rotate the pic for some reason) just an RF Zenith I've had my entire life is where i hook up old consoles. Also a few smaller Sony monitors and a Panasonic Pro monitor that I don't have much use for anymore.
>>84266997
this:
>>84261760
cost him $6million you faggot
>>84269406
Since my BVM supports RGB and Component, I just use RGB and/or Component for most everything, including using sync-on-green RGB for my PS2.
The only time I use Composite is for my Famicom, NES, LaserDisc player (as long as it's not a Muse HiVision disc) and all my Atari consoles except for the Jaguar (which I don't own).
And the Samsung consumer CRT on my bedroom has an S-VHS VCR plugged on the only S-Video input on my TV for watching VHS tapes, as well as a PS2 (which I use for PSOne and PS2 games, as well as for watching DVDs), a Super Famicom (I know it doesn't output Component natively but it supports RGB, so I use the Super Famicom HD Retrovision cable which are literally RGB cables with built-in YPbPr transcoders), Nintendo 64 (I use another Super Famicom HD Retrovision cable for this after I modded my Nintendo 64 with RGB output since the Super Famicom and Nintendo 64 AV Out port are exactly the same) and a Wii (for both GameCube and Wii games), and finally, one of the Composite inputs has an original Famicom (modded with Composite outputs) plugged into it.
So I have three setups.
>>84261365
>I AM GROWING STRONGER
I forgot to mention that I am using a gcompsw for my Samsung consumer CRT, which is why I can plug multiple consoles at a time in Component.
>>84269985
I should've bought another consumer monitor for games because the Panasonic pro one has these weird hookups on the back that I had to buy converters for I forget what its called.
I'm curious about those Muse HiVision discs I'd never heard of that. The Pioneer units have all that Dolby Digital shit but I don't have surround setup anywhere at the moment. I've always wanted a Laseractive...
>>84270493
Nice.
I might also consider getting a LaserActive and the Sega Mega Drive, PC Engine and karaoke expansions.
Does it still output RGB for Sega Mega Drive games?
I know the PC Engine needs to be modded to have RGB output.
>>84269494
what the fuck???? I could buy a tv like that for like 7000.... how in the FUCK would that cost 6 million
Why in the FUCK
WHO IN THE FUCK!??!?!
>>84269494
6 million and he watches fucking Shrek......
>>84270544
No idea. I saw one once but I know I will never spend $1000 on one in this lifetime unless I literally win the lottery.
>>84270727
It may not be a wise investment (at least to me) if it doesn't output RGB, at least for the games.
I already have a Sega Genesis, PC Engine SuperGrafx (modded with RGB output) and a top-notch LaserDisc player so I may not need this.
i just got an old crt tv how the fuck to i put my stuff on it
>>84270819
What inputs does it have and what will you plug on it?
>>84270836
it has component but not dvi or hdmi but i need my computer on it since i dont have a dvd player or anything like that. fuck i had a crt tv with hdmi idk why i ever got rid of it
>>84270859
Try looking for HDMI-to-Component converters.
But you can use a PS2 as a DVD player if you do have a PS2.
Plus, Component cables for the PS2 are pretty cheap.
>>84263172
Good lord anon, your TV's more than 10 years old, you have the room, put some dosh aside and budget yourself something from this decade.
>>84270859
gotta get a converter box frend. i think they're cheap. just make sure you get one that converts the signal and not just a wire with different hookups on the ends, I did that once...
