He was thinking it would be better to die standing, rather than be hunted. In fact he drew his own blood first to take that away from the predator.

The film leaves it fairly vague as to how the fight went down, anywhere from the predator simply knocked him off the log, to it being a good fight.

What I don't care for is how they have downgraded Arnolds team over the different films. It took all of his men and him and a huge effort to take one out, yet in later films, random street police can do the same. Also later on random groups of violent people perform much better than Dutch's team.
