The DNC is in shambles, just as the GOP was last year. A complete outsider like Colbert could easily make it.

Got stomped in that election. Only children watch his show and those bitches don't vote

Okay buddy, sure they were. The Democrats have had a net loss of political seats nationwide in every single election since 2010 now. The Dems are down over 1200 State Legislature and Federal Seats since their high in 2008. That is not a flash in the pan change.
>>
He's going to run as a republican by reviving his Colbert report persona. Right wingers will be retarded enough to once again buy into the "you don't take him literally but you take him seriously" meme and Stephen wins by a landslide, historically big electoral win.

Colbert isn't an outsider politics wise. He's basically a stock democrat. He may be an outsider considering his fame but that would only do what that anon is saying, splitting the Democratic vote. Then you take into account even more splitting due to third party candidates like with this election. I know plenty of people who openly insulted third party voters for taking votes away from Hilary and I imagine that they'd hate Colbert for doing it too regardless of how he runs since I'm positive he won't get the Democratic nomination.

I'm a Republican and I would love for this to happen. Colbert has alienated more people than anyone in Hollywood. It would be great to see him run. Also the cognitive dissonance caused by him going from parody character to actual candidate would be amazing.

Really, are you kidding? You know that his family has been threatened repeatedly, right? He had a segment awhile back where he read off comments people left for him, including stuff about raping his wife, his kids getting cancer, and him getting shot in the head.

I think you could trap him somehow. Liberals are full of contradictions. But maybe he could pull that off, but I don't think it would garner votes.

But if he did choose that route, he'd have to stick with it. Hillary would have done better if she stuck with her high road nonsense, but she kept letting herself get dragged down to Trump's level and Trump is better at his game than Hillary ever could be. I knew a guy who worked for the postal service in DC< and all the presidnets mail, death threats, suggestions, everything, went to this big warehouse complex before it went anywhere. There are secret service agents whose sole job is to read the mail, sort through it, send on anything that looks fine, throw away the garbage and spam, and catalog the rest so the FBI and Secret Service can track those making death threats.

Do you trumptards even think before you speak? You seem to have no knowledge of American history. Even a slight amount of knowledge of what has happened in our country would tell you that Trump is getting off light in comparison to many prior presidents. You're an idiot.

3 of the 6 who didn't have political experience were generals: Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, and Eisenhower. If you don't believe being a high ranking general in the US army doesn't count for political experience, you're an idiot.
Herbert Hoover had the least experience before Trump but even then he served in the cabinets of Coolidge and Harding.
Taft was a judge and involved in the judicial branch at the very least.

Weight those accomplishments against Trump's. He is genuinely the least experienced politician to ever be elected to high office and there isn't a goddamn thing you can say to refute it.

He's been a big name for decades and has constantly had cameos in television and movies. People play dumb when it comes to politics. Suddenly, no one's heard of him before 2005 or whenever that shit show came out.
>>
>>84263856
He was famous for buildings, then he fucked up in 90s and then he became essentially a marketer, and TV personality who made money safely by licensing the TRUMP name to people who actually made the buildings.

The fact that you think he's primarily a builder means his rebranding strategy has worked excellently.

Well, it's always been literally anyone can run for president. That's what makes us a country of equals and not one where some are more important than others because of experience.
>>
>>84263991
He's been getting interviewed since the 80's asking if he wanted to run for president. Off the top of my head there are early interviews with Oprah, CNN, and I believe Larry King. And then there's his random cameos in Fresh Prince and Home Alone. Yes, he's been famous for being rich and successful for decades, you idiot.

>A seething, arrogant, hateful closet case homosexual like Colbert runs for office.

First, if you're even talking about this you fell for the bait.

Second, his audience is barely 2.4 million on average. That's tiny. There are damn near 350 million people in the US

Third, Colbert's arrogance has alienated more people than Hillary and her "deplorables" comment. He literally could never win.

Forth, a closet case weirdo like Colbert would never want to be exposed to the political spotlight. All the creepy shit he did in the past would suddenly be exposed.

H.W. was also nothing more than a blue blooded beuracrat who bounced from one nation wrecking appointment after another. The only job involving any real governance on his resume was as CIA director from 1976-1977, which in that year amounted to napping in the janitors closet while the congress investigated whether it was going to just abolish the agency all together.

Obama was a camp counselor and bill Clinton was a regional distribution manager for drug smugglers in the mid west who moonlighted as the plantation race mixer for a couple black latchkey programs.

You cite miscellaneous experience in the other presidents, but are completely fine with ignoring Trump's experience as a real estate magnate worth billions. You can't just say "OH WELL LOOK AT TAFT HE WAS A JUDGE DID YOU KNOW THE COURTS ARE A BRANCH OF THE GOVERNMENT" and then go around and say this fucking dude has nothing. Complete and utter horseshit, and if you weren't such a disingenuous jackass who thinks he's a lot smarter than he really is, you might've thought about that before making such a horrendous post. Looks a lot like the (((community))) of spooks are using their industrial surveillance and social engineering infrastrucutre to seize control over technological systems allowing them to exert broad powers over the executive functions of the country's economic and governmental institutions. Their public interference with politics in the three constitutional branches of government is growing in regularity and boldness every day.
>>
I just realized that the age of many of the primary candidates for either party this past election is ridiculously high.

I'm surprised that people like Biden, McCain, Romney and Clinton took at a stab at it as many times as they did.

I'm also surprised at how Cruz and Rubio were completely un-relatable in spite of being nearly 30 years junior to many of the older candidates.

Overall I find many of the candidates from the past several decades to be pretty unpleasant and I actually had a chance to speak with many of them in person even if it was just a few words at book signings or at lectures and such. I was happy at how Bush Sr., Clinton, Bush Jr. and Obama conducted themselves at these events and in private; you felt a kind of pride knowing you shared a world with them.

Before Colbert took up the Late Show I would have been happy to think of him as a politician because his out-of-character interviews portrayed him in so much of a better light contrasted with his Colbert Report character. Because his Late Show character is supposedly more like him I don't really think he was as grounded as I thought. The Presidents I listed were really amazing people separate from their politics and you could feel good about that. Nearly every person running for president this past year did not carry themselves well at all; there was no strong proud moment for them.

>>

While I agreed with a lot of Rand Paul's positions I just can't have a positive viewpoint of his conduct after all his filibustering.

To me, that was some childish shit. Who knows, maybe some of the people I admire did godawful filibustering too but that's what stands out in my mind about Paul as well as Cruz.

I liked Jon Huntsman more than anybody else. Maybe it was because I didn't have to be exposed to any of his followers who were loud and ignorant is why I thought highly of him. I liked his combination of liberal and conservative politics and his personality and I liked the idea that if he was the face of the Republican party it wouldn't be such a ridiculously shitshow it is now. That is not to say the Democratic party isn't a shitshow but they're retarded in different ways.

I'm glad Huntsman is our guy in Russia but I can't imagine how the fuck he's going to be able to do that job.

>>
>>84274582
I agree Obama had experience but I wouldn't say he had a significant amount.

He was a junior politician being brought up by Clinton. She never suspected that for his inexperience he would just shank her in the back like that after she invested so much in him. He still had stars in his eyes and was fresh enough to not exactly know what was or wasn't possible. Upon becoming president his actions were righteous albeit heavy handed. He had to learn the hard way that congress is fucked up.

I honestly wish he had succeeded with all his dreams but the reason for him getting nothing done or getting stonewalled was because he was driven by idealism and presumption of a functional system - and it is not a functional system. He believed that with leadership and openness he would accomplish much; the reality is that no amount of transparency, leadership, and motivation will cause congress to unfuck itself.

I felt like Obama did a good job ultimately. He quickly recovered from the emotional slights and conducted himself well to the end. It's very likely he saw the futility of trying to fix all the things he promised so he had to compromise with health care when he realized the limited amount of political capital being the president had - a fact Trump is hilariously learning now as well for all the same reasons.

However, I don't feel like Trump will pull up out of his spiraling self-made clusterfuck like Obama did. The man obviously lacks wisdom and his enemies in the public make Obama's trials seem like going out for ice cream.
>>

I remember Jon Stewart's book calling the Democrats dead after W.'s reelection.

And then Obama got elected and Republicans were dead forever

And now Trump gets elected and depending on who you ask, one party is definitely dead.

What bugs me is when these attitudes come from guys like Stephen Colbert or Chris Matthews. As much as people look up to them, as educated as they are, as many years as they've spent covering politics, you just always get the idea that these guys don't actually know politics.
