Post awful special effects. Animated or practical acceptable, as long as they are done terribly.

DESU, that was pretty impressive for the time and is pretty well intercut with real footage to give the brain less time to register the discrepancy.

>>
>>84254831
Not really. When it was released, I found it to be immediately jarring whenever they switched between real actors and the rubbery CGI characters. Though Reloaded was definitely more ambitious with its CGI, I was kinda surprised that the original matrix movie had more more seamless blend of special effects and CGI.

I think I'm the only one who loves bad cgi, especially the ones like The Mummy Returns. It gives the movie a time capsule value. I love it.
>>
>>84256251
i get the time capsule feeling with stop motion but cgi? from the mid 90s to the late 00s they went so fucking overboard because the thought that suddenly everything was possible and that they got fucking careless and ruined over a decade of cinema that way

You're not the only one.
Bad CGI has this aesthetic to it that reminds me of my childhood.
Not to mention that CGI is always becoming outdated. The CGI of today will look bad and a decade.
By just embracing the look of bad/old/weird CGI you ensure that you can continue to enjoy films as they age.

I actually did some work on Attack of the clones. Yes, there were a some miniatures built for the movie, but eventually they were only used as reference for CGI backdrops, because it wasn't possible to create complex camera movements with miniatures and Lucas wanted a lot of dynamic battles in the movie.
>>

Are you proud?
>>
>>84272945
Yes. You have no idea how many new technologies and techniques were developed for these films, ex. all modern keying and compositing techniques taking digital noise into account are based on algorithms which were first used in AOTC. While I understand that the graphics didn't exactly age very well, it was still an incredible feat to pull off back in the day and I really wish more people appreciated this achievement.

What how do I not remember this at all....

which marvel movie is this? winter soldier?

The fight choreography in this movie was great, but the stop motion was laughably bad. The fur jumps about every frame, and they didn't even try to match the motion blur of the live action content.

Still, a lot of CGI is being used in movies that you don't even realize is there and would only find out if you see a before/after shot.
>>
>>84274857
>>84274832
No. It looks appalling and stood out like a sore thumb even in 2002, especially as the intro of Die Another Day features some impressive looking real surfing done by some pro surfers as stuntmen. Then you get this jello looking wave and Pierce Brosnan in front of a bluescreen later.
>>

>>
>>84254976
>Not really. When it was released, I found it to be immediately jarring whenever they switched between real actors and the rubbery CGI characters. Though Reloaded was definitely more ambitious with its CGI, I was kinda surprised that the original matrix movie had more more seamless blend of special effects and CGI.

This so much. If you watch The Matrix today, it looks really good (only the Squids look a bit dated).
Watch Matrix Reloaded and it looks like a video game from 2009
>>
>>84254112

To be honest, I don't really mind somewhat iffy CGI in a movie that is not even talking itself seriously - I found the exploding heads (in all the colours of the rainbow) to be incredibly funny
>>

>NEWS FLASH: There were no special effects that would be considered even remotely good by contemporary standards in 2000

Some of the Matrix FX have not aged badly, likewise some of the stuff in Fight Club. And Fellowship of the Ring came out in 2001 and has aged really well.

This is completely false, unless you mean literally only CGI which makes no sense, there's much more to special effects than CG.

>>
>>84270441
I hated that movie but for some reason I don't have a problem with that specific shot. It's a stupid and goofy idea which just added to that movie's tonal issues but I thought the actual CGI of the truck flying looked consistent with the rest of the effects on the movie, even if it was a much sillier idea for a set piece
>>

two years later when i saw it on tbs, after like 2 years of playing xbox games, i immediately was able to tell how dated the cgi was.

now when i see this, it's completely unwatchable because of how bad the cgi is compared to even moderte video games.
