Skyler actually didn't do anything wrong. Her husband constantly lied directly into her face, endangered the entire family and manipulated everybody else. Her only two other options were leaving her husband, who is dying from cancer, or rattle him out to the police. Either way her life would have been ruined. All this while being pregnant or having a small child to take care of.
Walter ruins countless lifes and directly kills people, yet everyone hates Skyler. The reason for this is quite simple. Skyler is nosy, bossy, annoying, controlling and bitchy and EVERYONE knows someone like her. Everyone has had at least one sister or teacher or girlfriend or mother or coworker who was exactly like that. You could assume Walt's plan works, and they end up giving Skylar the money later on, or that they don't since there's no way to know how things will ultimately unfold.

My personal view is that they'd probably be less likely to give his family money after everything that's happened. In the beginning (pilot episode), they definitely felt bad that Walt cashed in before Gray Matter took off. The way they saw it Walt did have a right to some of that money, since he was dying, helping his family was the least they could do.

But since then Walt screws Elliot and Gretchen over on more than a few occasions, like that one conversation Walt had with Gretchen where he tells her to fuck off (Or it might have been Fuck You), not to mention Walt tainting their company to where they're on the defensive, the interview implying that Walt was somehow involved in their business, so they were forced to state that Walt only contributed to the name and nothing else. Not to mention they still had to shell out millions of their own money for all the meth users to further try and distance themselves from Walt. On top of Walt outright threatening their lives at the very end. So yeah, while they very much CAN still help Walt's family, I'm not sure how much they'd actually be inclined to do so.

I think one of the things Walt ultimately wanted was notoriety. The whole 'muh family' thing was kinda revealed for the bs it was when Walt admits to Skylar in the last episode that he did it for himself, because he liked it, was good at it. No one is doubting that Walt loves his family, but his family was just an excuse for him to do what he wanted.

In the end you could argue that Walt did get the notoriety he wanted. He'll be known as the man who single handedly created the biggest meth empire in the world.

The reason why Skylar was so universally hated was because she was a cunt, not because she was in the wrong. She took the moral high ground in the show and so her flaws were made all the more glaring. Walt did some pretty bad things but he never pretended he was still a beacon of morality or tried to justify it like Skylar did. Just because you're in the right doesn't make you likable. Self righteousness is considered an insufferable trait for a reason.
