Wtf. at that age are we really supposed to have our lives and careers sorted out by then. Her character also seems a lot more mature and worldly than I am now.

fuck this depresses me. at least bond and other male leads tend to be a lot older so I don't feel as bad.

Anyone else compare where a character is at life when they are supposed to be the same age as you.

never used to make me feel bad when I was under 25 but now it's really getting to me ;_;

You were supposed to graduate at 21 years old and have a job right away

22, first promotion.

At 27, you SHOULD be making at LEAST 100,000k/yr.

If you're not, that's you're own fault for not taking initiative...

Accountants start working at 21 or 22 and become managers after 5 years, assuming they jump through all the hoops at correct times. A real accountant, assuming everything has gone right in their career, would just be hitting their stride and getting upgraded to a slightly larger cubicle at Vesper's age.

A woman with the right background, connections, and tits would be able to skip a lot of that five years and go straight to more interesting stuff, though her job would be necessarily be less technical and more of a glorified sales gig.

True high powered jobs for super successful 20somethings usually involve 90hr work weeks, essentially being deals where you trade your youth away to the firm in exchange for a golden stamp on your resume that will get you a cushy job anywhere you want afterwards. I guess if you are a superstar student at an Ivy League college you might be able to get a sweet gig at an intelligence agency, but even then you would be sitting in cubicles while managing the actual field agents, who are usually miscellaneous locals who get bribed or coerced into going along with what the intel agency wants.

Conclusion: Vesper was not a real person and Eva Green was cast in the role because she was sexy rather than because she could plausibly be a high powered executive-cum-secret agent.

You are supposed to care about stuff like that only if everything in your life is going great and you are like "i'm, i'm getting validation from society that i'm doing great, feels good", otherwise there is no point on dwelling on it. I mean I spent all of my uni years thinking about how worthless I am because i thought that hating on myself was the right kind of motivation but it only made me feel extremely powerless and my life still ended up shitty.

What you should do is start looking for the true you, one that is worthless but happy. I mean going for the career in physics at 35 is pretty worthless but if your life is in shitter anyway it shouldn't matter all that much.

So yeah being a loser is the universe's way of telling you to drop the pretense and get into silly worthless juvenile stuff that you actually enjoy

At age 23, Tina Fey was working at a YMCA.

At age 23, Oprah was fired from her first reporting job.

At age 24, Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer.

At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and decided to go to art school.

At age 28, J.K. Rowling was a suicidal alimony succubus.

At age 28, Wayne Coyne was a fry cook.

At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter.

At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker.

At age 37, Ang Lee was a stay-at-home-dad working odd jobs.

Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39, and got her own cooking show at age 51.

Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at age 40.

Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40.

Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career and landed his first movie role at age 42.

Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first major movie role until he was 46.

Morgan Freeman landed his first major movie role at age 52.

So no, the main point when it comes to following your dreams is actually wanting to.

>>
>>84235958
Its not about being rich, its about being comfortable.

Yes, my job can be stressful at times. I don't want to pretend that I have some magical thing set up where I can fuck off and still get through.

I came from a working class background, where my parents had to save and scrape every step of the way. It feels good to not have to worry about health insurance, my car, my rent, or paying off loans.

I think you need to find a balance. I'm fairly far from my family but I have a great girlfriend and friends/coworkers who care about me and who I care about. I live really frugally, by choice rather than necessity. It takes a long time before you stop feeling "poor", even when you aren't anymore.

The money is good, but I like the challenge of the work and I think I have a good life. The money is for "later" if that makes sense? Its not about me having wild shit now, although I do treat myself from time to time. Stability is the most important thing money can buy.

There's uni not far from where I live. I merely mention an internship to girls who pretend to code and really have no skills and next thing I know she's at my place getting dicked.

I'm at a coop right now as a junior dev, two more semesters of school in a few months and I become a full-on software developer.

>>
>>84236195
And the money they save from not needing to hire those cucks will go straight to upper management and execs. You won't get a pay rise, not for another couple of years. You contribute to exponentially growing profit margins but your own income growth is static. You are working to destroy the lives of those you deem below you, but they're your class; the working class. The only thing you'll accomplish in this life is propagating the gap between your boss' gold encrusted meaty dick and your contemporaries.

But hey, at least your successful. At least you've got it made. You're a made man.
>>
>>84236205
Nah dude, I get to retire one day if I keep investing well.

My hope is one day I can wake up old and know that I can do anything I want and not have to worry about finding work because I've saved enough to retire comfortably. I want to be one of those cool grandpas who can chill with the family and enjoy the fruits of his life.

Since you're at a coop you already have experience. I assume the two semesters is for your BS. I would say do it, although don't limit yourself to the company you're doing to coop with unless you already signed something promising you work there. Start looking for other potential jobs over the summer and see what offers you get. There's a shit load of work out there, and all you really need to do is nail the interview since you already have some entry level experience.

Also don't limit yourself to jobs you think you are strictly qualified for. When I started at geico I had zero experience doing what they needed me to do. All my college work was as an undergraduate researcher doing parallel bioinformatics computing. I had one internship at the Argonne National Laboratory for a summer. Having published work as an undergrad really gave me an edge.

>>84236280
When I started here they threw me 80k a year, paid 5k for me to relocate and gave me a 10k signing bonus with full benefits. I've gotten a yearly raise since, over 6 figures now, and I get annual profit sharing checks based on how much money I've made, last year it was 9k. The checks are so nice the day we get them no one works and we all order food and drinks and have a party in the office. With the experience I have from them I could go apply to a lead dev position somewhere else and easily go over 200k a year in cali / washington.

Pretty much. Started at 25, 42k/yr full benefits free healthcare, life insurance, pension.

bought gentrified downtown house at 26, married 27, wife had 18/yr job with no benefits. housepoor as shit, no savings.

12 years later:

37, 76k/yr, almost full benefits, have to pay 1.25% of paycheck for healthcare starting next year. Wife makes 73k/yr now so household in come 149k/yr. On top of that I have side gigs making 5-7k/yr, over 100k in investment accounts, at 25% vetting for pension, 180k home equity, 35k in regular checking account.

Doing ok but could have done much better. It's never enough. One thing they don't tell you about saving is the setbacks the come along-- at least 3 $10k emergencies over 10 years, house renovation and maintenance at least 50k over the last 10 years,

Pic related, you can see my house in this pic

I live in Minneapolis. So far I've made 21k this year and its only half way thru. Good thing is I make double time for my over time, which is 32/hr. Bad thing is my job is high stress, and while upward mobility is begged for nobody wants to go up because the stress coupled with high turn over on upper level positions damages job security
>>

You sound like a fucking dunce and snow-flake.

It is a fact that some people will have it better, easier than you. It is a fact that some people will always be better than you.

That does not negate the fact that personal responsibility accounts determines your success, There's a whole flawed idea coming from leftists that all of your problems are external, which it might be in some instances but overall it isn't.

A trap I fell into early on was that I was so happy to have steady salary and benefits that I did not excel for more until I was 31 or so-- once you get acclimated to your job, start branching out to see how else you can either make money or make your life better. I may only make an extra 5-7k a year from side gigs but it helps my brain stay off my main job

it's mostly luck- starting from genetics which dictate a lot, to people you happen to know and circumstance, the market when you graduate, etc

unless you are an actual superman that can take charge of his destiny completely and go past his genetic potential and circumstance, but that's extremely rare... for most of us, it's almost 100% luck, let's not kid ourselves... if you are successful, it's 100% luck no matter how much effort you put in: the effort is 0% the luck is everything

I think there is a philosophical error in calling genetics luck. like without your genes there is no you to be lucky or unlucky.

You could extend what you're saying even farther and say that everyone is 100% a combination of their genes and experiences, both thing you don't control, and say there is no free will and everything is luck.

Maybe it's true in theory but it's an utterly impractical way to think and look at the world.

If I have to spell out Anon's point, you are a cog in someone else's machine. A machine that is making the working class obsolete for the sake of larger profits for companies and the 1 percent.
You are an utterly ignorant and immoral person if you deny your part in the destruction of people's working lives, and also a callous one if you realise what you are part of and continue on anyways.
What will happen when the algorithms write their own code? Could be today, could be in twenty years, but you will become obsolete and tossed aside like the 'plebs' you spitefully scorn.

I wouldn't want it to come to that. However, capitalism of all types assumes that there is an economy e.g. humans buying and selling goods and services to each other. If most of the humans no longer have a skill/ability/knowledge to sell, then they can't buy goods or services themselves which means you have no market and therefore no free market.
Marx, as far as I know, was only commenting on how eventually capitalism might fail due to cronyism, wealth disparities or automation, leading to communism becoming a nescessity rather than the forced meme that was previous communist failures.
Automation should be a good thing for everyone with a star trek-esque end to resource scarcity, in theory. Leaving everyone time, should they want it, to 'improve our mind and life's instead of performing the menial tasks which are work.
If it comes to this form of automated communism, then that's what it comes to. But humans becoming obsolete is a boogie man that is coming for all of us.

you still aren't sleeping well? damn son it can't have been long since you quit. even the most extreme addicts sleep pretty normal after about a year. i also have no sex drive, wonder if that's common with ex opiate addicts. and wonder if it comes back. don't really miss it that much to be honest

>Automation should be a good thing for everyone with a star trek-esque end to resource scarcity, in theory. Leaving everyone time, should they want it, to 'improve our mind and life's instead of performing the menial tasks which are work.

Agreed, so why is automation a boogeyman?

lots of people make money on exploiting us and they don't really understand how to exploit machines because these people are predators of humans.

Comm colleges are good for getting a boost out of poverty and into lower middle class jobs, a four year degree will get you comfortably into the mddle class depending on the degree, a masters gets you upper middle class depending on the degree and a Dr is supposed to be rich.
>>
>>84249014
because you idiot, you are assuming the people in charge are going to share the wealth and give everyone a basic income. which they might to prevent riots and them getting murdered. but that's assuming they are smart, which is a bad assumption. if they try to hoard all their sheckles even if it fucks everyone over, including them eventually, we are in big fucking trouble. and pro-tip, if you think you are in the top percent of people that will be fine when everything gets automated or done by poo's for 10 cents a day, you fucking aren't.

I likes the free market, so I do. I also like work ethic and being able to support yourself to an acceptable degree, although the exaggerated salaries of some of those on here set that bar way over what's reasonable.
If I am a luddite because I want to keep work around, then I am guilty as charged, I will grab my pitchfork and March on London.
Communism could be a good system but only if you keep humans far away from administration and regulation of the market. Because that's how you get authoritarianism, fascism, technocracy and all the other problems.

Because the powers that be could stay omnipotent and leave the rest of us to regress back into subsistence agriculture or begging for the scraps on the rich man's table. A dystopian regression of society.
Or at least a savage drop in living standards for everyone, everywhere, kind of like the similar catch 22 of globalism.

This guy kind of gets it. You are like a gas when you are born. You float freely and formlessly, but you have properties (genetics). As you grow you expand and eventually you hit a wall (an opposing idea), so you grow in the opposite direction for a while, until you hit another wall, etc. Eventually you fill your container (your environment) and take it's shape. Your existence is mostly reactionary, shaped by the things around you. So your decisions are really made by everything but you.

>automation will result in a dystopian regression of society

If that is true, then a lack of automation should result in a utopian advanced society. Would you consider a world without automated plumbing a utopia?

You fear the automation you don't know, but you embrace the automation you know.
>>
>>84235261
I'd get all the health care I need, remodel my house, buy all the fancy electronics I want, get a comfier bed, build a home gym, and eat healthier meals.

Anyway, your assumption is that the world is entirely deterministic, and I'm not sure I disagree, but thoughts and moods, as well as actions and reactions are all deterministic too if that's true.

So you can't blame anyone for being an asshole because the universe determined they would be one, but you can blame them for being an asshole because the universe also determined you'd get pissed at the asshole and blame him for being himself.
>>
>>84249699
holy shit you are stupid. maybe someone else will explain it to you, i just don't have the energy to try and deal with your level of stupid
>>
>>84249796
yeah, I have problems with the morality of complete determinism too, but I also can't really refute it. I read that it's possible that we do have free will within a mostly deterministic universe, but I don't know.

I graduated at 22, current year and I didn't go to the convocation

>first job promotion at 22

I'm 22 currently, recently graduated and 7 months without work currently

Guess it's my fault.
>>
>>84235261
Determinism is utterly morally bankrupt and is the antithesis of human civilization. Pathetic nihilist dreg, crawl back into your self-dug hole and die there. This world has no need for your kind.
>>
>>84249699
You can have too much or too little automation, like I admitted before, I display classical luddite sensibilities.
Plumbing is great and I've actually done a little myself, but its installation in my house is a job for someone. Support services and construction of the infrastructure for waste disposal is a job for someone. All good blue collar work to be sure. However I believe with all my heart that the automation that is occurring now is dangerous because it sustains no jobs and at the very least lowers a human's worth and therefore how much money you can demand for any given task, and job security and so on.
Like that video above of some guy on YouTube talking about how research in the law field is animated and low level stock brokerage is dead, that's the beginning of the problem, there are fewer and fewer entry level and climb the ladder positions anymore
Look I'm getting tired, I do recommend cgp greys 'humans need not apply' and whatever else as further reading and listening on the matter.
I don't think this new wave of automation is good for anyone and I stand by that opinion.
Always anticipate the worst scenario.

Reminder that Sean Connery would have killed Vesper the moment he found out she was sent to tag along with him. And yes, I mean literally kill her, Sean Connery got women killed for kicks, the bad guys girl friend in Goldfinger, the bad guys girl friend in Dr No. He would have knocker her out (literally, not figuratively) on that train and thats the last he would have saw of her.

She has more years of experience on you anon, most people never realize this.

Someone like that was obviously a pageant child with parents that forced them into shows, studios, model sessions and commercial work probably starting at age 10 and it only got worse from there.

Super motivated Go Getter parents that forced her into talent shows, lots and lots of late night training and dance classes, as well as singing and exercise the second they say one ounce of baby fat anywhere on her along with the strict diets and sleep regimens to keep that glowing skin at all times.

After school it was straight to talent training or music classes, every single weekend was spent either training or auditioning for a part among all the other talent kids with insane motivated parents that shove their children into that nightmare. Only when they are around each other they get ten times more competitive because each parent has to be the single most motivated one who puts their child into the most work. So the immediate week after the audition is the worst week of their life, even more so if they did not get the job they were trying out for.

So yea she probably has a good 11-12 years more work experience than you. But I bet you have fonder memories of your 13th birthday or 12 Christmas where you go to have a childhood, eat candy and hang out with friends and have generally zero cares in the world.

That comes after years of going to parties, benefits, donating time and money constantly, and being forced to hang out with unbelievably boring or pretentious fucking people over and over again just to get in on a first name basis so that will lead to work and popularity.

Politicians never have to put up with the sheer amounts of bullshit.

Join the Navy. If you're a dirty foreigner you even get US citizenship from it. In essentially no danger if you're not a retard, can save/invest pretty much all your pay, and the benefits and job prospects when you get out are (for most jobs) pretty awesome. Can even stay in for 20 years if you like it and get a pension.

That's what I'm doing anyway. Will most likely leave after my first enlistment and try to make movies, if that doesn't work out go back in as an officer for the long haul
