Is there any reason why witches were so popular back in the 90s? Hocus Pocus, Sabrina, Charmed, Craft, Practical Magic, Blair Witch
Harry Potter ruined witches. In the proper setting a witch is fucking terrifying.

Don't forgrt Buffy. Maybe some sort of wave of feminism that was actually marketable unlike first wave feminism in the 60s? They'd have "taken back" witchcraft but it would have been all hippy-dippy and new agey. Nothing people would watch. In the 90s "girls kicking butt" was still fresh and witchcraft would be the perfect thing to reinvent and make badass. Died down because the badass chick trope is so old now and modern feminists hate fun.
The rise of militant feminism coincided with the downfall of women being portrayed as evil cackling cunts who should be avoided at all costs
Don't forget this one. 1989 is close enough.
might be the same reason why zombies became huge a few years ago.
Which Sabrina was cuter and more crushable?
Was it kino?

This. My neighbor had one of those motion activated witch decorations for halloween that cackled when you passed by it. We lived in one of those townhouses where we shared a front deck/porch so before and after school everyday I had to pass by it and try to find new and creative ways to get by.
This probably helps explain my love of movies like Witchfinder General, where supposed witches are being tortured and murdered.
