I apologize, I wasn't clear in my explanation.

My conclusion that the 1984 style self imposing of the black community comes from political/societal issues that stretch beyond the capabilities of the black community alone. I retract my statement that their social situation is merely "self induced" but is closer to a combination of historical/political factors in the rise of black voting patterns. This is really a different discussion to be had, but I felt that the 1984 comparison was a worthy thought to place in the discussion of black media because of the loose connection between 1984 as a media product and the black community being involved in media production.

So for that I apologize.
