what are some universally acclaimed films you hate? to me, it's john carpenter's the thing (1982) and donnie darko (2001)
>>84191524
No one unironically likes donnie darko though
2001 is trash.
Once upon a time in the west.
>>84191524
The Godfathers
To Kill a Mockingbird
>>84191524
citizen kane.
i just dislike movies that disappear up their own asshole.
>>84191524
why do you hate The Thing?
Donnie Darko is only liked by teen edgelords in a serious way. It's total puff
>>84191524
same. I really dont like carpenters the thing, its boring as fuck.
>>84191632
>>84191594
based
>>84191697
>>84191754
>>84191788
poor taste
>>84191789
I think it doesn't come even close to the caliber of Alien (1979). although it's scary, there's nothing special that sets it apart from any other gross out monster movie
Shawshank Redemption and, to a lesser extent, Forrest Gump
>>84191754
to kill a mockingbird isn't that good of a movie. it should've been a portrait of Scout rather than a courtroom drama. Keep in mind I like movies like the verdict (1982) and 12 angry men (1957)
>>84191788
Citizen kane is a great movie idk what you're talking about
>>84192269
i think forrest gump is a great movie, and the shawshank redemption is a great movie IF you forgive it's ending
I didn't see either of these til college: Back to the Future (1 and 2, haven't seen 3) and Gremlins.
The Social Network. It's critically acclaimed even though it's a movie that is basically about nothing with drama that could have been in a saturday morning cartoon
Avatar (James Cameron)
>The movie is a visual spectacle but aside from that it's trash.
>>84192221
I consider the atmosphere and sense of dread and uncertainty was pretty awesome. And I also enjoyed the use of practical effects to convey all the different mutations. Alien (1979) was fucking god tier in sound, pacing, and use of effects. No doubt about that.
Absolutely despised the sequel though. Like really really really hated.
>Couldn't accept the tone shift from the first to second movie.
>>84192761
I agree but I think it's the only thing The Thing has going for it.
I disagree, I actually liked the sequel. I definitely would not put it up to the standards of it's predecessor, BUT it is an entertaining action movie. It's purely masturbatory but it's fun. Not to be taken seriously
Aliens.
The movie is stupid. Sending 12 marines to help a colony of 158 people? then embarking on the drop-ship all a once. Then leaving this drop-ship opened up somewhere. Then getting in the nest and doing all kinds of retarded shit that led to a thermo-nuclear explosion. what were they thinking?
>>84192221
>t. brainlet
cosmic horror is best horror
Goodfellas was drivel
>>84192981
It at least had a plot unlike Casino. (And I like both)
Downtown Abbey is a show for people with heart disease. It's boring and nothing happens. Except
le ebin english desert dry wit ecksdee
OP just can't stand people having a #FUN Thing thread. Get fucked faggot.
Solaris was a snoozefest
>>84193235
I'm about to see it
>>84192862
>It's purely masturbatory but it's fun. Not to be taken seriously
I should have had that mindset going in. As an action movie it's fine but I was so floored by Alien I guess I was being a bit harsh.
>>84193235
Is that the one with George Clooney? Because if so I completely agree.
>>84192902
It's hilarious
>>84193235
I dislike it for other reasons. I like all of his other movies.
>>84191754
>dislike movies that disappear up their own asshole.
What? In what way could this possibly describe Citizen Kane? Do you even know what you're talking about?
Whiplash has some of the worst writing I've seen in a film this century.
Gravity is nothing more than Sandra Bullock crying and panting for three hours.
Everything Tarintino has made since the first Kill Bill is for teenage boys exclusively.
Most of Pixar''s output is mediocre and some are utterly unwatchable.
Arrival
Don't understand how it was as successful as it was. Only thing that stands out is cinematography.
>>84194310
how so? i think it's a good movie but there's something under the surface i don't like
and yeah tarantino is trash aside from Pulp fiction
>>84194209
God damn it, I was supposed to quote: >>84191788
Anything by Tarantino
>>84192221
>there's nothing special that sets it apart from any other gross out monster movie
I think you're going to feel real stupid for saying that one of these days.
>>84192981
>>84191594
0/10 taste
Fight Club
The Usual Suspects
also this >>84194583
>>84191594
>No one unironically likes donnie darko though
I do. One of the most imaginative mainstream movies of the last 20 years.
>>84192118
The reality is actually the opposite: it is only DISliked by edgelords.
>>84191524
There Will Be Blood
No Country For Old Man
Star Wars
Every Scorsese ever
Every Hitchcock
Every Tarantino
>>84196041
What's it like being a moron? You don't like any Hitchcock movie? Confirmed dumbass.
>>84194365
Absolutely this. I thought the alien design was pretty cool and then they ruined it by giving them fucking heads on top of what was presumed to be their heads for two thirds of the fucking movie.
>>84191524
The Thin Red Line
Pan's Labyrinth
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Dark Knight trilogy
>>84197077
Hitchcock was considered especially plebian in his time. Only nowadays people pretend his work was good.
>>84197299
>Only nowadays people pretend his work was good.
I really liked The Birds.
>Haven't seen his other movies.
>>84197299
That's not true at all
deer hunter
blade runner
tree of life
inception
interstellar
>>84198580
Yes it is. Go read about him sometime. His work was basically the capeshit of his days.
>>84192730
Same, I tried to like it but I just don't see the appeal.
It had a nice soundtrack, though.
>>84191524
Citizen Kane is boring.
>>84199000
Again no it wasn't. He was revered since the 30s. Nobody gives a fuck about some faggy french art film from 1942 that's 6 hours long and has no narrative.
>>84191524
I don't hate the movies as such, but I really do not enjoy any of the original Star Wars trilogy.
La La Land.
Not even memeing. Nothing but a 2 hour circle jerk of pretentious people doing pretentious things set to awful music and lack of singing ability. And I LIKE musical.
>>84199124
You don't know anything about film history, you fucking pleb.
>>84191524
>the thing (1982)
>AH'LL KEEL YEW!
>donnie darko (2001)
I liked it, but still think it's overrated and prefer Southland Tales.
>>84191754
Revisit it in ten years, please.
>>84197282
Agree they are all overrated. The last great thing GdT did was Blade II; The Frighteners for PJ, and BB was the best Nolan Batman film, and for Christ's sake, TDK is the NUMBER FOUR rated film on IMDb...
>>84198652
Again overrated.
Pirates of the Caribbean movies for me.
>>84199299
post links and prove me wrong
James Cameron's AVATAR.
Just Pocahontas with blue aliens.
Completely unoriginal in every way and for some reason everyone thought it was the greatest thing ever made. I mean c'mon...unobtanium?????
>>84199299
Exactly what I thought faggot
