I sometimes feel that comics Superman suffer from way too much wank that end up harming the character. He's the most powerful and capable hero in the universe, he's the most respected and beloved hero in the universe, he's the most handsome and charming hero in the universe, every other hero and even some villain were inspired by him and worship him. That's all well and good, but in the end you've this character that has a lot of self-importance and fluff about him, but without a real good reason so it comes off as unwarranted and unworthy.

I feel in that in the cartoons since he wasn't that powerful, or morally right all the time, or even character-wise perfect, you could sympathize a lot more with him. For example you could take his side in that Superman vs. Captain Marvel fight, even if he was being a paranoid bullheaded person, because he KNEW Luthor and after being burned so much by Luthor antics anyone could relate to him being suspicious. Or in the Doomsday fight where he tried to kill Doomsday, everyone could relate to his anger and fear. Even when he was getting zapped like a motherfucker and flaffing around like a fish on dry land, you kind of rooted for him to get up and go save the day. The fact that the Justice Leaguer didn't kissed the floor he walked around all the time also made you sympathize with him every time his friends were suspicious, angry or just being a jerk to him like sometimes Batman would be.

Seriously, i feel cartoon Superman was a lot more humanized and humble character. Sometimes i feel that comics Superman comes off too much as a... what's the word? Like Gary from Pokemon or Prince Charming from the Shrek movies, you know. The kind of character that doesn't seem worthy of all the praise and wank he gets from other characters and situations. It's not even an issue of Superman, the character itself, but how writers portray how the whole world treats him. I simple can't relate sometimes.
