Say what you will about this film, but some of the shots in this were absolutely amazing.
Do you guys know other movies with shots and cinematography that leaves you speachless?
I'm talking about films with shots like Tree of Life or Lord of the Rings
Great Visuals Central I guess.

Shame the movie's story was dog shit, but yeah you're right it did have great visuals. Though once again the story was shit, I thought Avatar had some sweet visuals even if it was just all CGI. I'd say Life of pi did as well.

>>84159992
The ND filter is clearly visible and darkens the sky in the shot. it provides focus to the duel in the middle but at the expense of making the top half look artifically dull.
I'm not that pissed about its use in Barry Lyndon but it has been used a lot worse in lots of other movies. It's a pet peeve of mine.

it's an ND filter. I work with them all the time. it's really obvious. it has a signature look and cinematographers use them to blot out the sky just like that.

it's obvious. look at the tree on the left and the way it fades to black: that's a result of a filter with a darker upper half. Cinematographers use filters to control exposure this way. They look like this:

Or maybe everyone's seen it because it's The Seventh Fucking Seal, literally babby's first black and white foreign art flick
>>84162140
The Mirror is the ending point.
If I were to recommend the order for watching his movies I would start with Stalker to see if his style interests you. Then, starting with Ivan's Childhood, I would watch the rest in chronological order (skipping The Mirror) and then watch The Mirror. A lot of people say The Mirror is Tarkovsky's best.

yeah seriously Watchmen basically used the graphic novel as storyboards where it went past the point of homage and I struggle to give him credit for the movie being well directed because most of the powerful images from the film that stick with people are pretty much 1:1 replicas of frames from the comic.
The movie's still good though.
