I wouldn't say Will Smith was a giant star at the time. He was known because of his music and FP but Bad Boys was what propelled him into Hollywood movie stardom.

Will Smith wasn't a giant star when they did the first Bad Boys. That is what made him a giant star. Fresh Prince had made him popular but Bad Boys definitely launched his career as a international super star. Most actors fail to make the jump from tv to movies.
