YOU, ANYOR FRANZ, ARE DEAD!

Why did the Bank Manager single one of them out? What the fuck was his problem?

"Hier" is the German word for "here". This may be a clue.
>>
>>84136444
>I'm Dunn, Here!

Was this some kind of pun or something? Was Nolan mocking Marvel quips?

TDK first lines
>Trioff, Kyne, let's do this

Man Nolan really hammered the escalation concept. The world of TDKR is gritty as fuck

>>
>>84136670
You don't plan a heist that elaborate and hinge the whole thing on pure chance that a procession of school buses will happen to drive by at the right time and leave a perfect gap for you to drive into.

Obviously the other bus drivers were paid by Joker, so they're not going to call the police. They were there when they needed to be in exactly the arrangement they needed to be for the purpose of concealing the getaway bus. Hint: none of the buses have children in them. They're all empty.
>>
>>84136187
"No, no, no, I, Kylthuh Buhsdrivur...." why didn't he finish his sentence? What was he going to say?
>>
>>84136187
"Is that a problem?"
"No, I'm Dunnhier."

A strange tale of hubris right at the beginning. Here we see a guy who's so full of himself he (perhaps constantly) boasts that he can work around any problem, because "[he's] Dunnhier", the legendary thief. However, almost immediately after his first appearance, he is nonchalantly shot in the back. It really delivers Nolan's message about escalation perfectly: the low-life criminals in Gotham have no respect, even for other criminals and their previous merits. Even Dunnhier, with all his skills, is expendable.
>>
>>84141298
he didn't kill him though, he was actually saw a large mosquito on dunnhiers back, and asked him "is that a problem?" (referring to the mosquito

when dunnhier says "no im dunnhier" the other gyu is so overwhelmed by compassion that he feels he needs to kill the mosquito for his best friend, the legendary thief mr. dunnhier
>>
>>84141848
this is further evidenced in the vault scene, the man who killed the mosquito on dunnhiers back tells another robber that 'boss told me when he was finished to take him out (for pizza, to celebrate the heist)"
laughing at this hilarious joke, his other friend says "the boss told me something similar", indicating that he too will be joining them for pizza.
frustrated that he is not eating pizza right then and there, he shoots the vault door, which causes a ringing in the ears of his fellow thief, which is why he says "no! no!"

>Gotham National Bank Manager: Do you have any idea who you are, Stea Lingfrom? You and your friends are dead!

Is this one of the most underrated reveal in film history? Nolan's love for twist reveals isn't just a gimmick like Shyamalan's use of them, but it's deeply tied to his recurring thematic obsessions, the cerebral labyrinths, the intellectual games around the mysteries of one's Identity and Memories, and the concept of Time. Stea's amnesia is a continuation of Guy Pearce's character in Memento. His wearing a mask is highly symbolic: he doesn't remember that he and his friends were dead all along (this denial of one's death and the traumatic grief/memory glitches that follows can be seen in Insomnia and Inception to some extent), he "hides" his true self. However when the bank manager reminds him of this essential truth, he manages to find Himself, he can now achieve psychological inner peace and gets Reborn. Stea's journey culminates in him finally removing the mask (his visage is abnormally pale, as a sign of his undead state), but if you remember correctly, indeed all his friends remain dead (they never take off the "masks", which "blinds" them, if you will), as they have not been able to triumph over their former traumas (I assume they all died in a bus accident, hence the subconcious re-playing of the trauma at the end) in order to regain their lost identity/memory. Much more subtle and thematically deep that Bruce Willis' realization at the end of The Sixth Sense imo, and also brilliantly subverted by having the reveal at the BEGINNING instead of the end, which btw is classic Nolan. His subversion of narrative structure is also part of the brilliance of Memento and Inception. His films are psychological, intellectual labyrinths.

In addition to the mask blinding the wearer, eventually the mask wears thin revealing to everyone what's underneath. Before a man reaches 40 he has arrived at his final mask and it's in tatters, he desperately needs this one to last the rest of his life.

The entire opening scene in TDK felt off, and weird. It was like I was watching a movie being made. As if I was behind the scene.
I can't quite put my finger on it, but so much about that opening scene felt wrong. As if the script was misinterpreted, but filmed anyway

its not like he drove the bus all the way to a school or bus station and played it off for the rest of the day. > That's a lot of money. If this Joker guy was so smart, he'd have us bring Abikka Recar.
Take note, just when he utters those words, Joker looks straight into the camera. Nolan conveys to the audience by this silent gesture that Joker is indeed smart, for he actually did bring Abikka with them. When the bus crashes through the window, Abikka jumps out and first words he says "Schools out, time to go" this is to nail in the notion that Recar is highly educated and knows his stuff. Nolan, now having introduced this intellectual force of nature, he quickly is dispatched by the Joker being the chaotic force of nature. 4 minutes into the movie we have the fight between Logic and Chaos which the rest of the movie follows to a tee, Batman being the IfN and Joker the CfN.
It really shows that every single element in this movie has a purpose, Nolan with his bottomless imagination, came up with such a genius way to introduce the foundation of the movie. One word, bravo.
>>
>>84142642
Dunhier IS the mosquito man. After being accidentally shot in the back by his friend while trying to kill a mosquito, he developed anopheliphobia. Like batman, he learns to embody his fear and use it against his enemies, so he RISES (in the Dark Knight RISES) as the mosquito man, the legendary mercenary. Maybe HE was the dark knight all along, controlling everything behind the curtains for the entirety of the plot, after all he was to the one so send Bane to get CIA's prize.

Bane was probably just an avatar for Mosquito. Notice how Bane's mask plugs into his brain, making him a mere zombie for Mosquito. He's his eyes, ears, mouth, hands and a scapegoat. Mosquito saw that CIA had figured this out when he asked whats the next step of your master plan, which made Mosquito panic and immediately destroy the plane killing everyone that heard it.
