What was the general consensus on here when this was released?

The second half faltered a bit but it still made up for the shitshow that was Alien Covenant.

I liked it. Nothing absolutely spectactular, but good for something to watch. Ryan Reynolds best role since Deadpool.
>>
It's not a terrible film but it was so derivative of other films that it wasn't interesting enough. The alien felt like a CGI effect and they made it too tough.
>cold and vacuum of space, no problem
>blast in the face with fire, no problem
As unreal as Alien is with the acid blood and all, this thing felt much more like a movie gimmick and not a biological creature.
>>
The monster was a mary sue
>>
>Characters
Too many and way too underdeveloped to create a connection between audience and characters. Ryan Reynolds' character is the most annoying piece of shit I've seen in a movie. None of the characters really had an arc, or were going somewhere plot-wise.

>Alien
Very unbelievable, even for an alien sci-fi movie. The scene where it broke out of the glove with knowledge of how pressure works just shows us how unimaginable this movie is.
How did it even get that intelligent?

>Setting
All nations in the near future sets their differences aside to explore space yadda yadda peace propaganda
Also, why was the US the only country chosen to name it?

>Plot
Ripped straight out of Alien. Extremely predictable plot-twist, which quintessentially just wastes 30 minutes of plot-planning. The whole point of the movie is just to show how dangerous aylmaos might be. The characters are nothing but expendable plot-devices.
For being alien scientists who, in the end are willing to sacrifice themselves, they sure are stupid enough to potentially let the alien escape by opening the laboratory.

>Soundtrack
Pretty good.

>Cinematics and effects
Nothing to really complain about, but not groundbreaking or fantastic in any real way.

Could've been alot better.

Are Rebecca Ferguson's legs featured prominently?

Plain and predictable as fuck, right down to the final plot twist.

Speaking of the final plot twist, the most infuriating thing about it is, how lazy they were trying to sell it. The capsule entering the atmosphere sails as smoothly as a leaf on the wind, meanwhile the one spinning out into deep space is shaking all over the place? Really?

Calvin was far more scary when he was smaller, the concept of him being able to hide behind things and slip inside you when you aren't paying attention is horrifying.

Once he got bigger he just became another generic hard to kill alien.

Ending was cool though, even if it was predictable.

And the way he broke that black guys hand, was cringing so hard.

SAVED BY THE ENDING

PURE FILMÉ

I actually really liked it.

Had a really good 2nd act which is unusual for a Big Budget B movie and most of the Acting was great, it wasnt as dumb as most popcorn sci fi slashers but the 3rd act felt somewhat weak because of the ending.

Jake Gyllenhaal killed it as usual.

fuck off it didn't hold a candle to covenant

>but it still made up for the shitshow that was Alien Covenant.

How? They are not related in any way.

Also, it is a watchable movie with semi-stupidly written characters. It is mediocre, but has a pretty solid and correct ending.

And, >>84102863 seems to be an idiot. It is like he watched it with the volume off or during a frat party.

That wasn't a twist. You were not paying attention at all.

Yeah we all saw Calvin reaching for the joystick, that doesn't make the ending any less underwhelming.
