I just wish Moffat would chuck Bill, it's annoying how everyone finds her ugly mug attractive and they keep forcing revisionist "blackz wuz everywhur" history.

Literally none of that has any substance. You don't actually know what substance means, do you?

>weeping angels
>substance

They're spooky statues that send people back in time amd can only move when you're not looking at them. Well. except for all those episodes when they don't. But either way, they're literally just a concept. They have no substance or depth. There is no answer to "why" the Angels are what they are, and do what they do. That doesn't mean it's a bad concept! But in this case, substance would literally defeat the entire purpose of the concept.

Supposedly he's good friends with director James Strong. He did 7 episode over the first two series of Broadchurch, 7 Who episodes under RTD, and 2 for Torchwood as well. Here are his relevant Who credits:

The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
Daleks in Manhattan//Evolution of the Daleks
Voyage of the Damned
Partners in Crime
Planet of the Dead

Cyberwoman
They Keep Killing Suzie

We have no way of knowing for sure of course, but given his previous experience on the show, it's not unlikely we'll see him return.

I accept the bait.

>Weeping Angels
Cool at first then got progressively shittier. He fucked that one up completely. Blink was great, the two-parter was good, then he was out of ideas. What the shit was Angels Take Manhattan? There's a reason they haven't been used in any substantial way since: they were a cool idea that Moffat fucked up by being himself. This is a recurring theme.

>The War Doctor
How was he really any different from the Doctor? He's billed as this regeneration who committed such heinous atrocities that the doctor practically erased all memory of him, and then he shows up as all in all a pretty standard old man who might be a little grumpy but is never seen doing anything nearly as bad. Moffat's problem is he writes characters talking about all the cool shit the doctor has done but he never actually SHOWS us any of that.

>The Eleventh Doctor
I liked him fine.

>The Twelfth Doctor
Great doctor held back by complete shit writing. Series 8 almost put me off the show.

>Night of the Doctor
...

>Clara Oswald
The worst nuwho companion. The Clara Oswald Show Featuring The Doctor was not a good look for the show.
Also another example of Moffat's signature move, the interesting setup followed by a disappointing payoff. The whole impossible girl thing was interesting but once she lost that appeal in such a shit fashion we were left with a bland character and not much else.

>Amy Pond
Alright.

>River Song
Again, interesting setup, laughably disappointing payoff. Moffat pulled a Moffat.

>Bill
I like her, she's cool.

>Nardole
Awesome

>Missy
I get it, she's CRAZY. Moffat can't write women.

>New Daleks
The Daleks have never been less threatening. Say what you will about RTD, at least he made the Daleks intimidating.

>New Cyberman
So bad they brought back Mondasian ones.

>Bringing back Gallifrey
And doing fuck all with that idea

>and a ton of other shit I don't feel like mentioning
Because they'd all end up disappointing too,
>>
>>84057850

He's billed as this regeneration who committed such heinous atrocities that the doctor practically erased all memory of him, and then he shows up as all in all a pretty standard old man who might be a little grumpy but is never seen doing anything nearly as bad.
Yeah, War never does anything that really sells that premise, and the end result of Day of the Doctor (no one will remember the events of today because of timey wimey bullshit) just leaves me feeling like his whole supposed redemption arc (that we never really saw any part of aside from the redemption) was moot.

On the flip side, I have to hand it to Hurt because his acting runs circles around Tennant's and Smith's, and I can't think of a better choice for the Doctor who had to make the momentous choice of using the Moment. Honestly, not even Eccleston could have pulled that scene off as perfectly as Hurt did.

I'm so divided on this character. On one hand, he's a living, breathing retcon that bothers the shit out of me but on the other hand, you sort of have to hand to Moffat for making the best of a bad situation.
>>
>>84066715
RTD made the Cybermen into Daleks lite by giving them a meme catchphrase patterned after the Daleks and making it in their nature to upgrade other lifeforms which they deem as inferior, rather than upgrading being something they did out of necessity.

I honestly think that Moffat wanted the Doctor to reach his 13 regeneration limit by the 50th anniversary year for some kind of bizarre metanarrative purpose. Hence contriving shit like the War Doctor and counting Handy as a proper regeneration.

It's pretty clear that Moffat was trying to make 2013 the most epic year in Doctor Who history yet by revealing that the Doctor has now suddenly lived 2000 years, over half of which has been as Eleven, fighting this desperate war on this planet where he's prophesied to die his final death only to get a new regeneration cycle at the last minute by the powers of deus ex machina. This was probably done to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

To me, it felt more self-ingratiating than anything else. Eleven is the *most important Doctor EVER* because he's Moffat's Doctor.

Compared to caves of androzani? Its literally people echoing lines back at eachother without any real plot. Its finely acted, but you just compared a really good hamburger to a Fillet Mignon.

>Dalek.
A classic? Ok. You got me. But i'd still rate it below caves. Jubilee(the original) is on the level of Caves, but Dalek is a step below.

>Utopia/Sound
You're cherry picking anon. Theres 3 episodes to this and the third one is utter shit. The first two are fantastic but are completely let down by one of the worst season finales in the show's history. And I'm counting that among the Twin Dilemma(which is really only shit in its first episode, then is passable afterwards)

>bad wolf/parting of the ways
The fury of the time war reduced to a few missiles, some game show bullshit, and super powered rose. Its not a bad story(In fact this might be the farthest Rusty ever got from the Soap Opera style. Kudos to him), but it was a bit disappointing: a space station full of asshole tv executives(your tele is your therapy there rusty) whom we're supposed to root for when suddenly the daleks are in play. Nope, I was rooting for the daleks to mow down the fucks. Maybe next time the background characters can be sympathetic. Then a story like thus really could be a classic.

I would have included Gridlock or Waters of Mars if you wanted to put something anywhere near Caves.

It was also Moffat wanting to put his stamp all over the mythology.

The Time War? He throws his own new Doctor in there, and actively changes the outcome. The Doctor originally leaving Gallifrey? Clara was there, telling him which TARDIS to take. The regeneration limit? Let's contrive a way so Steven Moffat is the writer to overcome it. Clips of the old series? Sure, but let's throw Clara into them all.

I wonder how different Doctor Who would be if it never got cancelled and brought back
>>
>>84068096
90s Doctor Who would've been great.

McCoy probably would've left either mid way through or at the end of Season 27, along with Ace, though and that would've been shit.
>>
So throughout the dozens of series of Doctor Who from the 60s until about 2012 everyone has been constantly noticing the Silence and then forgetting about them? And the whole of humanity has been doing the same thing for thousands of years?

Or did they retcon away the Silence occupation? Hopefully, it's beyond fucking retarded.

>>
>>84068120
Nah, I've heard McCoy's lost stories audios for season 27 and its bretty gud. Combine that with some of the cartmel influenced new adventures, and give it a hiatus or two and it could have hit the mark.

I think by the 90s there was enough of a scifi boom that there were writers around enough to have something that would have worked. By 1996, the next generation and deep space 9 had ended, and with the right headwriter(DC Fontana?) you might have had a masterpiece
>>
>>84058218
Caves of Androzani happened -despite- JNT
He refused to use old writers, Saward had to convince him to let Holmes write something
>>
>>84068122
No because it only started happening in the timeline after the time war where the doctor died at trenzalore permanently, the silence took the tardis console and crashed it onto earth where Craigs apartment was, and then were able to influence everything.

Since the doctor didnt die at trenzalore, the silence never came back to make series 5-7 happen. It only exists as a temporal paradox: the events made our current timeline happen, but the events to make series 5-7 happen don't exist

World Enough and Time

Scene 1 :
The Doctor and Bill are walking through the university campus through a corridor, stairs, to the canteen to (to get kebabs). Then they go to the roof where they eat. Throughout these scenes, the Doctor tells Bill he wants to test Missy. The Doctor thinks Missy is trying to change and that he really wants to help her change. Then the Doctor has an "emotion"... Bill protests that Missy scares her. At some point, the Doctor tells Bill that humans pop like balloons. Then Bill says to the Doctor the line we saw from the next time trailer, “Just promise you won’t get me killed.”

Bill is in the hospital in the operating theatre. There are two clocks in there giving two different days and times. The surgeon flicks a switch and she falls asleep. When she wakes up, she’s in a recovery ward in a dilapidated hospital. In there is a mixture of new and old equipment. She is attached to a drip feed.

There are two clocks in this room too: A DAY TWO clock which says 10:45 and another one that says DAY 36505 and 23.30. Razor (the Simm Master in disguise) is standing over her. He appears as a scarred, scruffy man with a beard. He notices she’s awake and tells her to go back to sleep. Bill is alarmed. She doesn’t know what is going on. Razor suddenly leaves. As Bill falls back asleep, a patient cries out in the dark, saying the same words. "Pain, pain pain, etc." and she still hears this when she next wakes up. The cries are coming from another room. Bill tries to sit up.
>>
>>84069969
She has a flashback of standing on a bridge with a charred, blackened hole going right through her chest. Bill frantically reaches for her chest to find the hole replaced by machinery! She then looks up to see the Doctor at the end of the bed. He's staring at her intensely. She calls out to the Doctor and he tells her to wait for him in an urgent whisper. She blinks and he’s gone and doesn’t know if she imagined him. She continues to hear “Pain, pain pain…”

She sees an open door. A door which leads to a corridor. Bill doesn’t know where she is or why she is alive. She checks herself again. She realises she is not restrained in any way except for the drip feed, which is on a stand on squeaky castors. She is weak. She pulls herself up holding onto the stand. She is in a long, thin hospital ward with rows of beds of sleeping people with drip feeds. The DAY TWO clock still says 10:45. The other clock now says DAY 365036 and 00.23. Bill is puzzled. She walks towards the door.

She then steps into the corridor. She looks at the signs along the corridor and sees a door that says, “OUT”.
>>
>>84069990
Bill and Razor leave the hospital and walk along a bleak, grey, foggy street in the city/spaceship with a steel ceiling. The housing and the buildings in the city are of dilapidated brutalist architecture. Everyone they pass looks pale, weak and sickly. Bill comments on how sick they look. Razor tells her that it was a good place hundreds of years ago when the settlers first came. Now the city/ship is old, rusty and dying and engine fumes poison the air. Razor tells Bill the people must evolve to survive. Sadly they aren’t evolving fast enough. People are staggering down the street, carrying their belongings and suitcases.

They're led by Special Patients with drip feeds. The Special Patients are what the film crew called “topknots” during filming. They are headed to the hospital. Razor tells Bill that the Special Patients are strong. Bill notes that the Special Patients are in pain. Razor tells her that the Special Patients will be cured and Operation Exodus will begin and everyone will leave the city. He says they'll climb through the ship and take command of it. Bill wonders why they don’t go up right now as there are lifts. Razor tells her that they need to be strong and that he’s been up there and it’s dangerous. There was an expedition to floor 507, many years ago to the largest solar farm and they never returned. Bill staggers, gasps for breath.

Razor taps her chest unit. The chest unit says, “Warning: return to the hospital.” twice. Razor tells Bill that she needs to be strong to leave the hospital. He also tells her that she will be strong very soon. Razor helps Bill back to the hospital. A Special Patient, looking more like a Mondasian Cyberman with a slit cut for its mouth, stares out from a hospital window...

After this there is a scene where Razor takes Bill to the operating theatre. Then Bill and Razor watch the operating theatre being locked up. Razor has a burgling mask in this scene. This maybe where he gets revealed.

Bullet dodged. I was happy with the hint (?) in EoT where Rassilon made the dissenters kneel like the Angels. I like the idea of it being a warped Time Lord punishment from the days of the Time War. Dissenters sentenced to literally live on Borrowed Time, left on enemy worlds to disrupt their plans. If they refuse to fight, they die.

This is exactly why the Cybus backstory was such a needless contrivance.

No one wants to use the Cybus Cybermen anymore but they have to reuse the props, leaving the writers specify off-screen that those weren't actually Cybusmen (despite looking just like them). It's sloppy.

I mean, they don't /have to/.

Annoyingly, Moffat said he wanted to update the Cyberman design in 2010 (to shake off the Cybus backstory, which he's tried to do whilst being stuck with the Cybus design, leading to a mess) but they spent too much money elsewhere, including on those bastard Paradigm Daleks. If they hadn't bothered with the Paradigms, we could've had new Cybies in 2010.

Sleep No More isn't quite as bad as its reputation here led me to believe - it's no Time-Flight, that's for sure.

But it is self-congratulatory, makes no sense (literally what even happened in this story and why?) and the eyegoop monsters are clearly Gatiss' attempt at writing a Moffat monster - something everyday and mundane, playing on kids' fear etc.

On the plus side, The Doctor and Clara are great together, some of the dialogue was pretty funny and it was at least an attempt at doing something interesting with the found footage shit.

Although, the direction was kind of motion-sickness-inducing and unclear, people quoting Shakespeare as if anyone gives a fuck are incredibly annoying, nuWho episodes are too short, the "not just [a pretty face]" line from Clara made me want to DIE, le capitalism is bad xD, the monsters are supposed to be blind but are still distracted by the dancing women...

And how is it a man who "hasn't slept in 5 years", surely it should be "has been sleeping for 5 years?"

What the FUCK was the deal with that guy recording the message, what was his plan etc. Is it suppose to not make any sense?

The more I think about it, the more I think it really is as bad as Time-Flight

Theoretically, it should be a story with unreliable narrator. The only thing we should know for sure is that Sandmen exist and are created by special signal applied to human brain.

The first problem with that is that considering average quality of Doctor Who, story being shitty and making no sense can not be considered a foreshadowing that story is a fabrication. Second, it's a very dull episode and lighting makes it hard to see what's happening. Finally, Sandmen are overexplained again, with the same broken logic that brought down Kill the Moon, but that's subjective.

Well actually I was thinking more about the "something in the corner of your eye" thing, which is pretty much a rip of The Silence

>>84070715

It was hard to see, yeah. If it's an attempt at unreliable narrator, it's a shit one because it's completely unclear that's what they're going for. I was making a note of plotholes throughout, and a couple of them were addressed I think but then the rest just leave me thinking, what the fuck, this is really poorly written.

Were they overexplained? It was a stupid idea anyway.

Can the Master be considered a main character now?
>>
>>84070724
God, that slat with two columns of dalek balls on it is disgusting, I hadn't even noticed the original daleks had the same thing going on until right now.

They look fine from the front but that angle is so unflattering.

The New Paradigm Daleks are like when somebody sends you a dick pic and they have a pretty impressive shaft, but a tiny little head that looks malformed and as if the foreskin is strangling it
>>
>>84070837
More a 'recurring' character, the same way he was in Season 8 and Series 8, but he/she will likely now vanish again for a series or three before a return.
>>
>>84070882
I'd consider him a main character desu. I feel like I know then just as well as the Doctor by now.

Anyone hoping we might get a Mondasian Cyberman called Krang or Krail in the finale, as a direct link back to Tenth Planet?

This is exactly how the next two weeks will go.

World Enough and Time
>well paced, well written, sad but still funny
>cliffhanger which will make your brain explode
>Capaldi performance shines through
>"Bravo Moffat, instant classic"
>"RTD BTFO, pls stay Moffgod!"

The Doctor Falls
>Feels rushed despite being a longer episode
>Missy and Simm fucking about with le funny quips for the majority of the episode
>cliffhanger resolved within 10 minutes
>Bill's horrible fate reversed by the Power of Love
>Nardole probably killed for cheap emotion
>Capaldi sidelined and fucked AGAIN by Moffat's awful writing despite valiantly struggling against that fat fuck's torrent of shit

Last year it was The Clara Oswald Show featuring The Doctor, this year has been better but it's falling apart at the end again.

My Doctor Who would be awful, I can't write at all, but that doesn't mean I can't recognise Moffat's shit for what it is. At least with the gay Welshman you got the feeling he actually cared about writing something good even if it turned out to be shit, with Moffat it's all about:

1. Showing how smart he is
2. How amazing his creations are

Huh?

Krang and Krail were 2 of the Mondasians we saw in Tenth Planet. I'm asking if it'd be cool to see one of them in the upcoming episode, who later goes off to the events of TTP.
>>
Wonder how they're gonna handle the Mondasian cybermen - do they board/invade the spaceship like pirates, or is this meant to be their 'origin story', retconning Spare Parts, and have all the people on the ship be Mondasians?
>>
>>84071906
I imagine they built the ship and experimented independently.
>>
>>84071906
Mondas definitely appears in the episode and there's a guy saying 'we must evolve to survive' in the BBCA trailer so I imagine it's a new origin story. It's entirely possible that the spaceship in the episode is actually Mondas.
