To be fair, I give a "top 10" knowing there's no 10 movies that I straight up like the most. It boils down to distilling all the films in your top tier, whatever that may be, to only 10 that both show off/exemplify your taste, and also give an accurate representation so as to get good recommendations. I post in these threads all the time and almost never give the same list twice

No problem. Piavoli makes very meditative and poetic films, which I'm sure you'll enjoy, but I didn't even watch them with subtitles, the dialogue is that inconsequential. It's all about the beautiful visuals and the slowness that allows for your own thoughts to take over the experience at times. Enjoy!

fair enough if that's your thing, personally I don't like the 60s aesthetic that much so there was nothing for me to like.
La pelle is a book about fascist Italy that is amazing, there is also an adaptation but it was a terrible one.

I don't know Inland Empire just did it for me. I was totally immersed the whole 3 hours. It was intense, scary, bewildering, and ultimately really uplifting in the end. I quite enjoyed interpreting it. There's not a single film like it, and it'd be hard to find another as brutally creative in any other direction either

I love Lost Highway as well, it along with FWWM would constitute my favorite 3 Lynch movies. It definitely has that element of "fun to interpret" and it lends itself much more easily to doing that. I wonder if you watched Inland Empire with more focus on a narrative than simply "enjoying the atmosphere" as so many suggest doing with Lynch's movies, if you'd enjoy it more. Here's my interpretation:
Just how in LH and MD there are the "real" characters and their "imagined" counterparts, there is one real Laura Dern in the film. I understood it to be the prostitue, the one speaking, beat up, in the room, and the one that gets killed. The whole movie up to her dying on the street takes place in her head. It's a journey through her subconscious as she comes to terms with who she is and the life she's lived. Perhaps the movie star Laura Dern is a shield she's invented to see herself in a positive light, or a scapegoat for some of the wrongs she's committed. Either way, as the movie progresses, we see the layers peeled back and get snippets of all of them that exist in her mind until we see her die. Her act of then getting up and walking off the movie set is her consciousness now journeying through the afterlife. We see almost at the very end that Laura Dern sits on the couch at the other side of the room from the beginning, signifying as hinted that one day has passed. I take this to mean that the entirety of Laura Dern's existence was the closest equivalent of one day in the eternity of cousciosness. I don't know how much you know about the idea of ego and consciousness, etc. but seeing as how David is big into transcendtal meditation, I think those concepts are key to understanding the narrative. The girl in the film, watching everything on the tv, that Laura Dern reunited with in the end, is representative of a part of that consciousness or even collective consciousness, that has existed through the physical being of Laura Dern.
Hence my thoughts of an uplifting ending. She has found her peace in the afterlife, and likely her consciousness (or part of consciousness) will find another physical being to manifest itself in. Another "day", another life.
I haven't rewatched to see if this all holds up. Sorry to burden you with all that as well. But as immersive as Lynch's atmospheres are, there's always a narrative that he creates underneath. Granted, he makes no effort to translate it to the viewer, least of all in Inland Empire. But perhaps you felt less impressed by the film because of that lack of an underlying thing to tie it all together, and by watching it with the intent to find it, hopefully you will and can enjoy it much more

interesting. I came to a somewhat similar conclusion about the prostitute being "real" and everything else, specifically the movie star to be some form of fantasy. Can't say I connected the rest but you've clearly spent a lot more time thinking about this than I have.

I don't know, I don't feel like a lack of a clear narrative killed it for me. It's a movie I'll probably watch again at some point to see if it comes together more.

That's fair, I only assumed so because my main enjoyment with Losy Highway came from unscrambling the narrative. It's definitely an overwhelming film, and I guess liking it depends on the viewer wanting to be taken over that way or not.

In some ways I see it on the same aesthetic plain as Knight of Cups (which I'm glad to see you love). The best word I have to describe that movie is "tangible"; more than with any other Malick movie I feel like the aesthetic of the film is something I can almost feel, like it totally envelopes me. Obviously it does so by way of sweeping camera movements and beautiful shots, and Inland Empire is the polar opposite, but something about the way both are edited and spelled out make them extremely impressive outside of the narrative realm as well.

No. It's an incredibly personal raw film. Like reading some bodies personal diary. Captures the chaotkc emotion of the title brilliantly. My favorite of Noe by far.
Sure it's self indulgent but thats part of Noe's charm.
There is a lot of sex though and porn stars are used as body doubles. There's one scene where a character played by the director shoves his pierced cock in your face in a pov shot of him fucking a vagina.

It also reminds me a lot of To The Wonder by Malick (coincidentally my favorite own his). Which is the only film I've seen to capture the beauty and emotion of sex in a non erotic way so well,
