The Fisher King

>Chris did get out. He enrolled in the college courses with me, and although it was hard, he gutted it out like he always did. He went on to college and eventually became a lawyer.
>Last week, he entered a fast food restaurant. Just ahead of him, two men got into an argument; one of them pulled a knife. Chris, who'd always made the best peace, tried to break it up. He was stabbed in the throat. He died almost instantly.
> Although I haven't seen him in more than ten years I know I'll miss him forever. I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anybody?

Not a movie but
>We are assembled here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. And yet it should be noted that in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings.
>Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.

This film was much better than I thought it would be. Absolutely heart wrenching.
"They look like big, good, strong hands. Don't they? I always thought that's what they were. My little friends. The little man with his racing snail, the Nighthob, even the stupid bat. I couldn't hold on to them. The nothing pulled them right out of my hands. I failed.
The nothing will be here any minute. I will just sit here and let it take me away too. They look like good, strong hands. Don't they?"

true sadness kino
This scene in A Fistful of Dollars, where Blondie/Manco helps this family even though it goes against his interests and ends up fucking him over. It's a similar scene to the one the the Seven Samurai, where the wild samurai breaks down after saving a child whose parents were just killed, sobbing how he's the same as the child, that his wild nature is a result of losing his parents at an early age, likely from violence.
The man with no name doesn't have any history, but we get a glimpse of something when he mentions that he knew someone that was getting abused like this family was, but there was no one who would help them. I believe Blondie is talking about his family, how he lost his parents to similar oppression and violence, and that in a way explains who he grew up to be.
This scene and the one in Seven Samurai get me everytime.

I have always believed that it was actually an incredible plan that would have saved them all. That all of Baldricks life was leading up to that one amazing plan but that because of the stupidity of others his genius would never be realised.
I'm aware I could be reading into this too much, but I always saw that as the point. That Baldricks life was taken away from him like so many other mens lives, unable to reach his full potential.
How many cunning plans did the world lose because of war. That sort of thing.

PICARD: I don't know if all this has made any sense. I wanted you to know what kind of man he was. In his quest to be more like us ...he helped us to see what it means to be human.
B-4: My... my brother was not human.
PICARD: No, he wasn't. But his wonder, his curiosity about every facet of human nature ...allowed all of us to see the best parts of ourselves. He evolved. He embraced change because he always wanted to be better than he was.

no its legitimately sad. he's trapped in the middle of the ocean watching the last part of his optimism float away, the last human part of him, the last part of his old self.
everyone has lost a little bit of themselves. its a natural part of growing up. ive lost a lot of me. a lot of me because of me. a lot of me because of others. a lot of me for no reason at all.
the reason it hurts so much here is because you are watching a man die without dying. no rest. no endpoint. you just watch him die onscreen and scream out as a piece of his soul drifts away into the climax.
i'll never be done dying until im dead. this scene will always make me cry.

my father will never again be the man he was in my childhood. i no longer fear him. i no longer believe he can protect me from his or the worlds evils. i will never feel safe in his arms again. i will never seek his love or approval. he will never again be the man who told me it takes strength to cry, or rest his hand on my head and move me as the burning bush did moses.
my dad is just a fist to me now. the back of his hands and the constant drunken disappointed glare and the first to give up on me. i attempted suicide when i was young. almost died. i was so close. in the youth loony center i had a single conversation with him on the phone. he told me he prayed to god and in his prayer said that he was thankful for the time he had with me, that it was ok for him to take me away, he was just grateful for what he was given.
he died inside me that day. he's just as weak as me, as anybody. he used to scare me. he used to love me. but he's just as weak as me. are all humans weak? are we all weak? forever?
when will someone strong alive. why can't i be stupid and only feel love.

Throughout college, my dog got sicker and sicker. He had a tail amputated and developed arthritis and a bone spur. I told my parents that if -the time- came, to wait till I got home.
I got my wish. I had graduated and, after about a year, he developed cancer in the bladder. We gave him meds and did what we could but the time came where he was suffering more than enjoying life.
Every time I think about getting another dog, I remember the pain of getting my heart ripped out. Holding my little bud as he got the shot.

yeah the ending gets me to especially Vorenus's last scene
He hard a hard life
>>84049975
This fucking scene. Slipping Jimmy tries so fucking hard, god dammit.
not the saddest but this is the only comedy series that make me cry

what show is this? sounds to me like an irrelevant show with failing ratings that won't be renewed for another season

This.
The moment Fredo is killed, Michael realizes what he's just done. Now he's an old man, alone, recalling fond memories of Fredo - the only one of his brothers to congratulate him on joining the military instead of joining the crime family.

I found this kinda sad in a different way. Pretty much perfectly sums up the character of Bruce Wayne. He spent 20 years trying to avenge his parents' death and ultimately accomplished nothing. His father did more to save lives than he did as Batman.

Underrated post. I went on a quest to watch all of the studio gibli movies that existed at the time a few years ago. I went through a good bunch before I got to this one. I was all geared up to sit through another joyful heart warming film then after watching I was ready to walk into traffic.
>Dr Sam Beckett never returned home.
mom named me after logan from x-men so i got really into them my whole life. would always watch the movie (when i was 6 so like 2003) like a few times a month and kept watching them when they came out. got into the comics and stuff. Logan became my favorite character had action figures and shit.was around 20 when the logan came out was hyped for a new ones (3 and origins not the best) remember sitting in theater for like 5 mins after the movie ended

two dogs and a cat get separated from their owners (young children) and so they trek across the country to go to them. They go through all this balls out crazy shit and they finally get to the town the kids are at and he gets trapped in a mud pit.
after trying and failing a few times to escape from the mud pit it slowly becomes evident that he is no longer the young dog he once was, and that he is no longer spry enough to climb out of the pit, and so instead he tries to convince his "younger brother, protege, apprentice" type figure to go on without him, as he knows that he can no longer continue this journey, not because he doesn't want to because fuck me we just watched this fucker cross country like a fucking mad man and fuck off a puma? in the process, no he loves his owner but regardless of how much he loves him he can't go to him, and now he is accepting the inevitable decline of his body and begs for his family to leave him and carry on without him, for even without they still have a family and they must say goodbye
TL;DR dog treks across the country to get back to owner and falls into an inescapable pit seconds from the end and tries to convince his companions to go on without him

>my father will never again be the man he was in my childhood. i no longer fear him. i no longer believe he can protect me from his or the worlds evils. i will never feel safe in his arms again. i will never seek his love or approval. he will never again be the man who told me it takes strength to cry, or rest his hand on my head and move me as the burning bush did moses.

>she doesn't want Theo to go to Lucas for some dinner and company on Christmas night
Was like grinding my teeth at stages. Holy fuck lmao I'm getting mad just remembering it. It makes sense from her character's perspective but still.

>>84065901
this fucking movie, because at the end of it all, at the very fucking end he comes to the realisation that he is broken, and that nothing, nothing will ever fix him or fill that void of what he lost, and so he will keep going as best he can, as best a shattered, mangled, burnt out, rusted as fuck, empty shipwreck can do, but you also get that nobility, because whilst he knows he can't fix what he is, and he can't change what he has become, he won't put this kid in danger. He's a fucking shipwreck who's cargo was destroyed on impact and he is barely staying above water merely drifting the tides, knowing one day he'll sink, but he won't take this kid down with him when he does.
>>84037784
Jesus man; you are right- the first world war was horrific- there were no good or bad guys, just young men sent to die for no reason
>>84045950No, that was his mother who abandon him. He asks how could she just leave him? Wasn't she even curious if he was OK or where he was and that he used to imagine as a child he's turn around and she'd be there, and buy him ice cream, and take him home. I was actually able to keep from tearing up there, but the part that got me was after that when the rest of his family hosted a Thanksgiving dinner/Welcome home in his honor. This was mirroring his dream at the beginning of the movie where he was served pancakes (he reveled to his therapist that the ONLY time he knew his abusive adopted mom wasn't going to beat him was when she served pancakes that morning.) If you look carefully at the table, you see they actually have a stack of pancakes on it. That hit me fucking hard.
i cried a little bit
This movie. I cried like a little bitch 30% of it. Jesus christ.
Everything Bergman made.

Fucking bullshit. He understood that mortality sucks, and then pulls that?
>b-but anon kun, he just wanted to be accepted
Why? Why would a sapient AI want so bad to be human, to the point of willfully ending its own existence, which he was well aware that it was a blessing? Why not search it's own identity, as an entirely new being? I find that idea much more thought-provoking that a fucking retread of Pinoccho.

Why did The Last Samurai get such shitty critical reception? I've always thought it was a great film, if a little cheesy, and I don't think I've ever met someone who didn't like it, even if they weren't really a Tom Cruise fan.
Did people judge it by it's cover and think that the title referred to Tom Cruise (the white man) as the "last samurai" or something?
