That is pretty weird. I actually went to a Colbert show a little over a year ago to see Babymetal kino and I got to see just how much everything is forced. They literally want you to be cheerleaders and be fake as possible, they have literal crowd conductors for responses. Everything is walked through before filming. Still a cool experience though, you basically get to see the behind the scenes of everything in person and have some real interaction with the guests, performers, and Stephen when not filming. And I literally haven't watched a single episode of his outside of that but it didn't feel agenda-driven at all although that was before the political climate really went off the rails. I just never found him funny on Late Night and I loved his show on Comedy Central.
