Same reason why Stone's interview bombed. Colbert is a liberal hack that panders to his PC retard audience.

Burr doesn't fit into that narrative. Neither does an actual liberal like Oliver Stone.

I don't really care for bill anymore but Colbert's subtle no selling of everything he said was pretty low
>>
>>84015163
The host's job is to make you look good. That's a rule of the genre. Carson would have sold how funny Bill was being. Colbert... doesn't work as a straight host. He just isn't gifted for that role. Imagine Sacha Baron Cohen doing a non-character late night gig. He would stink. Playing a comic character who resembles a late night talk-show host doesn't qualify you to actually do that job, or else they could have got the guy who voiced Space Ghost.
>>
>>84016305
Yep.
>>
>>84017156
He was distancing himself to keep his audience on-side, a big mistake. You look back at old Tonight Shows, and Carson's laughter sometimes seems as fake as wrestling, but it's okay, he does enough to convince the audience, and help his guest - knowing that they're both on the same side. If you invite someone on - which is how the audience sees it - and you then have to freeze the guy out when you're the authority figure... it makes you look worse, not him. Nobody seems to have taught Colbert how to do this job.

That's not how it works. Pretty much every stand-up you see on TV except for Norm sucks, they still get laughs from the host because talk-shows are a rehearsed entertainment product. Bill didn't fail to make Colbert laugh, Colbert failed to do his job. I don't want to labor this comparison, but it is like wrestling. If one wrestler suddenly decided to no-sell the other's moves, it wouldn't be the other wrestler's fault if the match became awful to watch. Colbert was unprofessional. If Bill had been going out on a limb by his own standards I'd understand Colbert feeling he needed to protect himself, but he wasn't.

Much less often than you think, if you think back to how funny it usually ended up being when he did that. He more often made something creative out of the disconnect and his own irritation than he just let the time pass in undiscussed awkwardness. In fact, I can't think of a single Ferguson interview that went thud as badly as this Colbert one.

lmao, I said with people that he had no chemistry with, you fucking idiot. he loved awkwardness and did a lot of shit like let people hang for comedic effect, but there were other episodes which went completely down the toilet. you wouldn't like it anyway, because the opening monologue (making fun of trump, fox news, mccain etc.) would trigger you way too much.

I'm not on the right. Could it be that you think this is about defending Bill as a comedian? It isn't. I love late-night as a medium, and Colbert isn't good at it. Even if he was bringing real satire rather than court jester safety-in-numbers bullshit, he still wouldn't be competent at that job.

Fallon is bad at what all of them are trying to do. All of them fake laughs, oversell, straight-up act sometimes. This is not about whether Bill's funny - I've never been interested in or particularly amused by what he does. The point is that the deal on a late-night show is that, short of saying something totally heinous, the guest has the host's support, and the host is trying to sell the guest - because that's the medium, that's the genre. Colbert was unprofessional.

>Snarky comedians from opposite sides of the political spectrum trying to one-up each other.

The type of humor Bill does is the polar opposite of what Colbert viewers laugh at.

Clearly colbert had a soft and coddled upbringing with liberal parents. He totally sat there thinking Burr was a neanderthal trump supporter.

Just sat there and stared awkwardly at Bill trying to make him look like a lunatic so his liberal audience could snicker between sips of their kombucha smoothies. Colbert refused to even converse with him and makes me think he brought Bill on to make him look like an ass by sitting there silently as if to judge a comedian. Bill fits the stereotype of a trump supporter and the colbert audience just wanted a patsy to laugh and wag their fingers at.

"I like talking about people who don't have any power." -Colbert

Colbert doesn't like to punch down, and regardless of how YOU feel he obviously doesn't find humor in mocking butch lesbians. You can say he is being unprofessional but he has his ideals and he isn't going to Jimmy Fallon an interview with people he doesn't find funny or disagrees with.

You can take that as a negative.
>>
>>84017574

The lesbian construction worker joke fell flat. He had to back pedal and explain things. The m&m store joke needed more depth too. The clip TwoScoops showed of the cartoon blew as well.

Colbert really gave NOTHING to Bill in that interview. I get Colbert has to feed that core liberal audience but come on, Bill has a mildly conversative point of view and he bombed hard
>>
I think its a combination of the fac tthat

1. Colbert's audience are ultra-pc white liberals. That is not Bill's target audience therefore some of his jokes were gonna bomb.

2. Colbert wasn't responding to him at all or even helping bill out in the slightest. I swear it's like its colbert's first interview or something. He sounded so bored and monotone. If he was actually active in the interview he could've helped save some of bill's jokes. The 'mindset' is just dehumanizing people you disagree with as oppressors in some invisible hierarchy. That's not a principle or an ideal, it's just the mindless chattering demons of ideology.

>you disagree with
I'm assuming that you're using the universal you, since I'm not Colbert. Hell, I'm not even the anon who explained what Colbert was probably thinking in that interview.
>>
>>84026182
That anon called it an 'ideal'. It's just an amorphous set of oppressive hierarchies you construct as it benefits you to find a new group of people oppressive, and there for dehumanized enough to joke about.

It might explain why leftist humor has become so unfunny, because they regard humor as an attack reserved for people they don't like, rather than something that just makes people laugh.

Bro you have to watch Colbert's election night special... you can pinpoint the exact moment Colbert's spirit is broken.

You can find the ending online but you really should watch the full thing to see him slowly start to grasp for straws.

There is no point in watching talk shows in 2017 unless you're a hardcore liberal that get's a giant erection about Trump jokes 24/7.

Dude I searched everyone for the full thing online... I even have access to showtime's own website and its no where to be found on there.

Bros I think they fucking purged the full thing from the internet, might have to find a torrent for the luls
>>

It's right here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT4MZLl0v_c

Colbert's a massive hypocrite because he rants about people obsessing over politics during the 2016 election, and yet he continues to do exactly that.

Wow Colbert is awful.

Colbert is awful and Bill isn't funny anymore

Here is a better version of the end.

I'm talking about the full hour long show though, its literally cringe kino / smug kino of the highest order, I actually can't overhype this enough... throughout the entire show you see it wear on Colbert more and more until his spirit is crushed.

1. This was actually a pretty weak showing for Bill
2. Colbert was being oddly quiet and wasn't transitioning to better questions/actual discussion

It was bad on both sides to be quite honest, family.
>>
It's because Colbert might as well be a fucking quaker by now. It's like Bill Burr was interviewed by the pastor during sunday church. The environment is too rigid to be funny. In other words Colbert is lame as hist and stopped being naughty a long time ago.
>>
>>84027754
I seriously think Colbert has made a mistake to focus on Trump that hard because now if it isn't about DRUMPF he's out of his element. It's like Joe Rogan had a guest who wanted to talk about calculus instead of weed/mma/hunting/ancient aliens.
>>
colbert should've stuck to his strengths and asked bill his opinion on drumpf's double scoops
the audience would love it
>>
>>84016305
Well yeah, Colbert sucks as a talk show host. You gotta be able to play along with a guest, not just sit there sabotaging them because you're so far up your own ass that you can't abide someone with a different viewpoint being on your show.
>>
>>84014235
>cucktest
>they gotta make sure you ain't a fucking two-scooping trumptard
which means you're a cuck and thus qualified to be on the show?

The job of a host is to make the guest the star. When there's a comedian, the host has to provide room for what they're trying to do. Without it, the likelihood of falling flat or bombing goes up. All comedians have bad sets tho
>>
>>84019009

this is literally what history teaches
>>
>>84028771
Nah, nah. You got it wrong. That's not the job of Colbert at least. The job of the star is to lend their audience to colbert, give their face to his ideology, and in exchange Colbert gives you a plug.
>>
>>84013821
I saw this interview and the Oliver Stone one.
It's sorta odd, the show sorta gets outta people's grasp when they don't push through the audience's seeming disapproval like Colbert does.
Stone sorta stopped and got upset whenever the audience snickered or laughed at a serious comment, and Burr was distinctly non-Burr-like by actually giving a shit what the audience thinks, though I kinda feel like he did that to make a point since his whole bit was about how fucking strange he found milleniuals. And I saw this while have Burr as one of my top 5 comedians. He shoulda just rolled with his stuff no matter what the crowd did, because, personally, I find his best stuff comes out when he builds up momentum and gets a good rhythm going.
>>
>>84028967
>And I saw this while have Burr as one of my top 5 comedians.
Fuck. I fucked that up. I meant.
>And I say with while having Burr as one of my top 5 comedians.
>>
>>84015068
That was Colbert's fault desu. Jesus, he's bad at this.
>>
>>84013821
Have you seen that clip where Cobert has to coach his audience not to cheer at Comey being fired?

The audience are drones that are trained to laugh at rehearsed cues.
>>
Did anyone save Nia's snapchat pic with her, the daughter and "Dave" (Chappelle?)? The daughter is literally as black as her. The rumors are true then. Might Dave be the actual father?

it was pretty fucking bad. On Conan Bill does fine everytime.
>>
He's kind of a broken record on these talk shows. He needs to shake it up in the preinterviews instead of going for his usual shtick of "everyone is too sensitive, i grew up during a different time".
>>
>>84015068
Is Colbert not a fan of comedy? Jesus, he gave him nothing.

ahahaha, he's the master of the build up. completely bewildered the entire time as if he doesn't know what he's doing. i don't watch talk show at all so i like to believe norm and conan just have great back and forth but that absolutely has to be scripted
