I just saw it recently and I at least think it was shit. It takes the same formula as all the other previous films but after 5 times you know almost exactly what is going to happen so all the characters are just colossal idiots who show their overwhelming incompetence at every turn. The ending really fucking sucked. There was no way that David could've subdued Walter, cut off his own hand and other stuff that quickly.

Because in the first the alien spaceship and xenomorph were these unknowable ancient super advanced things that you could only guess the backstory of. I liked it and disliked it at the same time. It's like they pussied out of the prometheus storyline. It's like on the one hand you have David which should've been the main character with Shaw the entire film. Drawing parallels between paradise lost and him being a metaphorical Satan who hates human kind and the engineers because he believes he's the perfect lifeform. He want's to create like them though, because he was created by man he feels that may be imperfect as well.

Walter states when he incorrectly says that Byron created the Ozymandias poem. That "Even one misplaced note, can destroy the entire symphony". Or something like that. He like his creators is imperfect.

This storyline is amazing, the second is a bunch of alien 1 carbon copies that is exactly the same film the second half of the movie. This isn't bad, but it's boring, we've seen people fight aliens before. Daniels may even be Ripley's mom. But this was put in here because he was scared to finish prometheus. In the end it's fucking lazy but brilliant at the same time. If it completely stayed on David the whole time it would've been a lot better.

It's pretty good. People are mad because it has some flaws, but it's still miles ahead of all the capeshit and other shit that gets touted around as "kino" nowadays. Also, nostalgic faggots won't ever admit the original Alien had some dumb shit too.
It's a solid movie, works more as a piece of art than a piece of story-telling. Definitely the best entry in the series since the original Alien.
