I'm sure a country with 5000 years of history must have some kino movies?
the Great Wall was a hoot to watch.
P.R.C. =/= Ancient China
The P.R.C. is less than 70 years old, and a couple of decades in, they decided to 'destroy' all of their traditional culture and embrace Maoism full force. It didn't go so well. They're literally a shell of their former self. A modern day Chinaman has no culture--they're zombie.

Ironically when the ancient Chinese did interact with ancient Roman culture, they were pretty impressed by the Roman republican system and they probably saw Ancient Rome as a superior civilisation.
>What did the ancient Chinese think about the ancient Romans?
>The Chinese were pretty interested and impressed by Rome:
>Their kings are not permanent. They select and appoint the most worthy man. If there are unexpected calamities in the kingdom, such as frequent extraordinary winds or rains, he is unceremoniously rejected and replaced. The one who has been dismissed quietly accepts his demotion, and is not angry. The people of this country are honest. They resemble the Chinese, and that is why the country is called Da Qin (大秦, The "Great" Qin) ... The soil produced lots of gold, silver, and rare jewels, including the jewel which shines at night ... they sew embroidered tissues with gold threads to form tapestries and damask of many colours, and make a gold-painted cloth, and a "cloth washed-in-the-fire" (asbestos).
...
>It is from this country that all the various marvellous and rare objects of foreign states come

Before this thread turns into /pol/, have a list of Chinese movies. The first image also includes Taiwanese and Honk Kong movies.

They certainly loved Rome, referred to it as Daqin (the great Qin, after the Qin dynasty). Though they never actually managed to visit each other at the time, so their knowledge of Rome was based on hear-say.
>>83999926
They have nothing but Wuxia and Jackie Chan
>>84001387
They thought that the Roman's were descendants of Chinese people

Something to keep in mind as well. I personally found that it's good to look at movies that have been banned in the PRC, such as A touch of Sin. There are quite a few gems there.
>>84001457
so they were taking credit for it and reiterating chinese superiority. just as they continue to try and prove that all humans originated in china rather than africa.
I lived there for two years. it is a very strange country.

So, literal "we wuz lomans"?
>>84000359
No, they're getting their money out of communism. Buying lions gate is a pretty small step to conquering hollywood. Especially since there hasn't been a hit Chinese movie in the theater since crouching tiger

The Chinese have not had any artistic achievements for over a thousand years. All they make is basically capeshit and teen novel romances.
>>84004696
American revolution? China was one of the last countries to have a revolution.
They can produce the occasional kino

Wasn't there a movie about how a roman delegation met Chinese or something? I think there even was a polenesiean dude in there, but might be me mixing to movies.

Our Mainlander teacher who got the fuck out in the 80s showed us this film. They grew up during the Great Leap Foward, and it sucked.
