The Mothman Prophecies. It's not an excellent movie, but the mood and the background mystery make it worth watching it. It has a somewhat 'Lynchian' vibe to it, being reminiscent of Lost Highway and Fire Walk with Me.
However, it's more of a supernatural thriller than a cryptid one, so I don't know if that's what you're looking for.
