I remember Jacob always making some snarky patronizing comments whenever he was on a mission with SG1, saying they shouldn't be handling all this new shit and expect it to go without problems. Basically mocking their seemingly carefree attitude, which obviously wasn't true.

Post-Anubis the Jaffa were concerned about the rising power/influence of the Tauri in the galaxy, but by then the Tok'ra were pretty much irrelevant.

Absolutely. I think they are only high tier, below Asgards. While S10 Tau'ri are very high tier, thanks to all their Asgard and Ancient tech.
>>
>>83991512
Earth had Asgard and Ancient tech but they barely knew how to use either.

Asgard ships could go between galaxies in a matter of minutes/hours, but Earth ships using the same/more advanced drives took days using the most advanced power source known to go between neighboring galaxies.
>>
>>83991474
no not really true they have the Asgards hard drive with all there shit and Atlantis there still trying to utilize it all and understand it but you could argue since the tollan are not a Waring race like earth is earth might have an advantage
>>
>>83991474
Tollans are too arrogant. They would get buttfucked. Also their ion cannons a shit. Can't even penetrate slightly Ancient powered goold shields lmao
>>
Rank Stargate Technology tiers from 1 (lmaoooo) to 10 (Muscular Ancients)

S1 Earth = 1
Ancients = 10
Asgard = 9?
End of series Earth = 8?
GOOLD = 5/6?

Where would Earth be before we got all the Asgard shit but had our own ships etc? 5?
>>
So how much do you think those laser weapons hurt during that Ashen episode where they are trying to throw the note into the Stargate
>>
>>83992148
>Where would Earth be before we got all the Asgard shit but had our own ships etc? 5?
4/5. We're able to take on Ha'tak one on one but as soon as there are two we are fucked. Goolds have better shields and offensive capabilities thanks to their relatively efficient crystal powered generators. And they're more agile it seems to me.
>>
>>83992205

I know everyone hates the term "soft-reboot" but we could use one. Stargate as a franchise was pretty directionless after season 8 of SG-1.

I vote we do what Star Trek did after TOS ended and do sequel movies (as in The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, etc). Wrap up some of the storylines in their own movies. Even bring a close to Atlantis and Universe. Bring in a new movie SG-1 and have the old SG-1 pass the torch on.

asgard and ancients both range from 7-10.

the asgard had stupidly better hyperdrives than the ancients, to the point where they could get from one galaxy to another in a few minuets. the ancients just decided to make a wormhole drive instead of trying to get better hyperdrives

>>83993477
how would such a creature even evolve?
my guess: a normal parasitic worm, that infects hosts just like tapeworms do slowly burrows it's way to the backbone, were it is absolutely safe and can drink all the blood he wants. Similar to toxoplama gondii, it releases certain chemicals that change the hosts behaviour in order to increase the parasites survival chance. Because the homeworld of the Goa'uld was dangerous and their hosts were incredibly stupid, the Goa'uld that influenced their hosts behaviour the best/smartest way survived. Slowly they learned how to link better with the host brain, even getting their sensory input. All of that required a lot of brainmatter in the parasites themselves, so it was harder for them to pass on like a tapeworm. But trough their host control they managed to cooperate with other host/parasites and ended up with a ritualistic exchange of hosts.
When the first intelligent species arrived they had to adapt again to truly enslave the conciousness

they made the mistake of not teaching ancient to carter, tealc and jack, so that daniel would be less crucial to the show and we could have avoided the Daniel Jackson show.
>>
>>83995039
Yeah until S5 I'd say so. S5 has some good episodes, a few great too, but overall it's meh. The final episode is a travesty of pure shit writing.
>>
>>83991511
it's really a shame, Stargate would make for a great cartoon, because SG-1 is already so cartoonish that you wouldn't even have to change the tone at all (goofy, over-the-top villains, lots of humor, generally light violence, lots of cool weapons and gadgets), and you could finally do really exciting visuals on other worlds instead of being limited to the canadian forest, kind of like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Yd_QxOp5ic

in fact I think the best possible way to revive Stargate would be to make an SG-1 CGI show in the style of Clone Wars sort of. call it Stargate Command or something. maybe even get the old cast to do the voices
>>
>>83995085
S5 appears to coincide with two SG1 movies. Are they any good?

I notice Vala is on the poster for one of them so I am not optimistic.

Stargate was very good. SG1 a bit worse after S8 but the last episode unending was full of feels during the 'have you ever seen the rain' montage. Universe got really good during season 2 so it's a shame they canceled it just as it got its foothold. And now Stargate is dead forever.

>>83996525
Nah man, you could already see that the writers had no clue what they were doing and would just go for more of the same. When they introduced the "descendants" of Destiny's crew I was sure nothing original and interesting would come of this show.

Disagree. And that seems to be the consensus among fans too - during the last episodes it got quite good and the mystery larger. I liked the alternate SGU crew living on Novus. I don't really see your problem with it. SG1 did many alternate timeline / universe episodes. Here we just saw consequences of one.

>>83996636
Yeah there was this reddit post where a guy asked about it and a guy went into a large almost autistic explanation of why the original SG1 died there.
I know it's reddit but it's actually a pretty good read.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Stargate/comments/4s1wdw/question_to_mallozzi_did_the_original_prime/

But in my mind our SG1 always lived. Exactly because of what all the other SG1s did.
>>
>>83996714
I'm not going to read that because I already knew that. "close enough" were Jack's last words and it was a joke from when Homer messes with time travel too
>>
>>83996652
I didn't like it, because IMO it showed that the writers can't come up with any more episodes without introducing new characters - and the whole point of that show was that Destiny's crew was isolated and on their own, very far away. Though I suppose magic stones already ruined it, like getting a doctor from earth to perform surgery. For fucks sake, how stupid do you have to be to do this to your story.

I did like the reveal about the possible purpose of Destiny, that could have been cool but desu they would probably just ruin it too.
>>
>>83996739
It's a interesting read because the original SG1 goes wonkers much earlier. However I like to think that we just saw what that alternate SG1 did. Say the reason you are reading this is because alternate versions of you saved you and your family from getting destroyed and so on. So our SG1 never died. They were alive. The prime SG1 always was and is. You could say the original Atlantis team died but also that the prime Atlantis team in the prime SG1 world lived because of alternate Weir rescuing them.
>>
>>83996743
They did some mistakes but it was shaping up and they had good stuff along with movies planned. Shows need time to wsrablos themselves and had they only got a bit more time I'm sure they would have survived.

Not saying SG1 was the most authentic military show but they sure as shit got loved by the air force. And they tried to do things as authentic as they could within the scope of the show. following this:

* 02 - Stargate SG-1, episodes 1.1 to 8.2
* 03 - Stargate Atlantis, episodes 1.1 to 1.15
* 04 - Stargate SG-1, episodes 8.3 to 8.20

* 10 - Stargate SG-1, episodes 10.13 to 10.20
* 11 - Stargate: The Ark of Truth
* 12 - Stargate Atlantis, episodes 3.20 to 5.1

Well, Google realized she is not a Jaffa, nor a Goauld. That's pretty impressive.
>>
>>83998325
It's important for a leader to be visible, particularly in autocratic societies.

Roman Emperors used to visit military bases and join expeditions too.

Watched it. a bit underwhelming.
Rebelling slave mine planet again.
Twists in every 5 minutes by somebody backstabbed somebody again.
Main characters died? semi cliffhanger again.
oh MC leaves, new members come again.
New villainous charismatic characters introduced then killed 5 minutes later, again.
meanwhile old character brought back, again.

I remember enjoying the Ori stuff and the King Arthur inspired mythos as a kid when I was obsessed with Stargate, but the episodes I've rewatched since then in the /tv/ couch streams, TV reruns and such has all been the older episodes, which I enjoyed even now. Not sure how the Ori arc has aged

Yep pretty much.

Dropped

While it's not the best, I do enjoy how self aware S9 is. And Teal'c dual-wielding P90s

The most genuinely terrifying aliens of all time in all shows

Ba'al is objectively the best enemy.
>>
>>83997849
I watched them side by side (SG1 ep 15, Atlantis ep 15, etc) and that worked out well for me, BUT it does make the progression of plot feel a lot slower on SG1, especially in season 10, which is all over the fucking place.

BAALED

so i'm watching that episode where they go through the gate, meet aliens, and make the aliens sick as fuck. would this not happen literally every time they go to a semi isolated planet? everyone gets sick as fuck and half of everyone dies from each others diseases they have no immunity to?
>>
>>83991016

I don't remember that episode. Is that a replicator ship?
>>
>>84001145
no
>>
>>84001145
The Ancients did a sciency-wiency thing to stop it, same way all the aliens speak English unless it's a plot point that they don't
>>
>>84001235
I remember reading something once about this being a major concern about meeting aliens, there's a chance they could carry some virus that's so different to our immune system it would wreck everyone. 100 percent fatality rate. seems possible to me, as all the bugs we get now are just a mutation of one our immune system has experience fighting

Stargates automatically decontaminate everyone that travels through them
>>
>>84001605
Than why don't they just send the ill people through it? They would came out perfectly healthy
>>
>>84001697
decontamination =/= healing
>>
>>84001729
I don't understand.
If they stay ill, they will spread the illness.
>>
>>84001782
They usually don't send sick people through the gate.
>>
>>84001826
So how do we know it has healing power?
>>
>>84001851
Decontamination =/= curing disease

Otherwise barbicide would cure cancer
>>
>>84001970
Fine, than how do we know it has decontamination power?
>>
>>84000000
>>
>>84001995
Back in the ealy days they used to run medical checks on everyone who went through the gate. When the teams came back with no mrsa on their skin I guess that told them
