Why is Christopher Tolkien so stupid? Why does he hate everything Peter Jackson made? Peter Jackson may have made a few minor mistakes but Christopher's opinion is ridicc.
>>

>Peter Jackson may have made a few minor mistakes

Yeah nah
>>
>>83989577
it literally wasnt their problem.
Also why the fuck would you fly into Mordor willingly? The entire god damn point behind how fucking miraculous it is that Frodo survived is because prancing right into Mordor was insanity.
The whole reason that the fellowship went about it that way is because destroying the ring without Sauron ever knowing its whereabouts was the only way they could succeed. A bunch eagles flying straight towards Mordor isnt exactly subtle and im sure if Sauron saw it coming, which he most assuredly would if thats the plan the fellowship went with, the eagles would have been massacred on arrival.

Is it better to watch the movies first or read the books first? I feel like both have their downsides, with the books obviously some stuff is left out or deviated from in the movies, but if I watch the movies after the books I'm worried I'll just think it's a shittier version of the books and not care. That's what happened to me with Game of Thrones.

Because the eagles weren't superman they were simply big eagles.

Here's your /pol/ logic:

Hi, I'm Suron. I'm the most powerful being in Middle Earth. Right now, I'm basically a big eye. I can look across all the land. Oh, what's that? Some of those fucking eagles flying right into my stronghold. They seem to be carrying something... is it? Yes! It's my ring.

Welp, I guess they win. I could just send my ring wraiths up there on their flying lizards but no, anon says I'm helpless so I'll just let them bring the ring to my mountain, in the open - as open as they could possibly do it - and not kill them as they try to enter mt doom.
And I honestly don't think you're trolling. I think you're just that dumb.

well in that case it really is reasonable to argue that the eagles did them a favor by saving them from the wargs and carrying them for a little bit, but they couldn't expect them to carry them all the way on a quest that was entirely the dwarves' own affair, unlike LOTR where the fate of the entire world hinged on that mission

The best explanation, imo, is a question; how fucked do you think everyone will be if the eagles decided they wanted to take the ring? Giant invisible eagles. Absolutely terrifying.
>>
>>83991029
I played a Guardian (tank) during release. I think this is the most middle earth/tolkien lore friendly game ever. It took the lore and universe and expanded it to make it suitable for a game especially an mmo without it contradicting the lore thats been established.
>>
>>83998001
The rings don't make you invisible, it just takes advantage of the hosts most valuable characteristic, like sauron being powerful, hobbits being stealth, men respect... etc... so eagles would probably be zooming around faster then mock 3
>>

galadriel is strong as all fuck and i'm pretty sure smaug should be higher than that.

The wiki doesn't specify what the one rings power is, only that it holds power over the other rings. It does say a little about the other rings though, like how Galadriel's ring makes her very seductive and alluring. It's funny though, that despite knowing the reason behind the rings and that Sauron could control theirs, they still wear them. It goes into detail about the other two elvish rings, too.

I think he's right on some level (I'm the guy he responded to), but it could literally be anything. Whatever is valuable at that moment is what the ring could give you. It's very much open to interpretation.
>>
>>83998330
The Elven Rings were uncorrupted by Sauron (Celebrimbor crafted the Elven rings in secret), and so were fine to wear as long as he didn't have the Ring and as long as their powers weren't thrown around willy nilly. As soon as he gets it back, they would need to remove them or suffer the same fate as the Nine, though it would probably take longer.
>>
>>83998139
So it's not like that in the book?

In the book Aragorn has no clue where anyone is until after Boromir's death

Because in the Hobbit they were freaked out by mirkwood and didn't want to fly anywhere near it. The Lord of the eagles said that himself.

You can swing a sword by the blade with proper technique, it was used to combat armored combatants in medieval times. It doesn't cut if it doesn't slide. Skallagrim did a video on this if you like to see it.

probably magic. People only started using the scientific method and actually trying to figure shit out when they realized that religion and all that crazy shit was a lie and they actually had to go and figure it out, but in middle earth magic and myth are real, and so theres never that, "everything i was told was a lie I have to figure this out" moment. Their shit actually was crafted by gods and there actually is a big plan and we actually cant figure anything out, its totally different from reality thats why its "fantasy."

That is a pretty based reason to write a book.
>>
>>84001234
only reason we advanced scientifically is because smart people realized religion was a lie.
if you suppose
1)religion isnt a lie
then
2)there is never a realization
3)there is never any drive to use the scientific method
4)there is no sense or purpose on figuring out the intricacies of the world since it was made by gods, there is no natural law only Eru

in this environment science would never form.

I watched the movies before reading the books. I don't think my experience of the books was lessened by it at all. LotR head turned out to be one of the few works where I feel like the movies turned out as good as the books, even with the differences. Books and movies have very different constraints and I think of you keep that in mind you can enjoy both works for what they are

Taking the ring there was a suicide mission itself, nobody was really expecting the hobbits to return from Mordor. Plus do you really think that an amount of lava small enough to fit inside of a bucket wouldn't cool and become rock well before it even got out of Mordor

Look, just shut up about the Eagles and quit trying to ruin a nice thread with your lame, reddit arguments.
Somebody here once posted something like this regarding the eagles:
The Eagles situation is like this - you've got a friend that'll take you to the airport even if it's out of the way, but if you ask them to shove a balloon full of coke up their ass and go to North Korea with you, it's a no go.
