no they are both from the same movie.

This is one of the only "theories" that make sense because the impossible structure actually has an aesthetic effect on the viewer. It treats the movie as a piece of art and not as a dumb conspiracy theory.
But for what purpose? What is the purpose of the impossible window for instance? Some symbolism can have a value because of their meaning or at least their aesthetic appeal, but an impossible window? Disappearing plushy dolls and wall stickers?

Any child can see that. And Stanley’s explanation was, “It’s a ghost film! Forget it!” … It’s not a movie with a serious message. I have this theory that as we watch a movie or show, we become conditioned to the way the movie presents things, the world it creates, and as a result anything outside that world, that presentation, that fucks with us. Here we have a slow boil slasher movie set in the biggest haunted house in the world and all of a sudden we're showing this weird, shocking, sexual image that we weren't prepared for. I believe this is also the true reason the Vader scene in Rogue One was so popular, because suddenly a very straightforward war movie was invaded by a scene from a slasher movie. It's an inappropriate *kind* of violence for a movie like Rogue One, so it sticks out remarkably. Same with the fursuit scene in the Shining.

Jokes on you, fat middle-aged men is my fetish
Love him or hate him, this reaction in his review of Room 237 both completely cracks me up and is a great summary of this absolutely fucking bonkers documentary.

there are so many people who hate this documentary and those people are fucking retarded. They actually think that this documentary is making the argument that The Shining actually holds these theories and is so layered, when in reality the documentary is a fascinating portrayal of pareidolia; that they can and will read anything they want into any piece of media.

I agree, to a point. Like he says in the video, there are good points made throughout the documentary that aren't completely fucking crazy. But they are drowned out by the other ones and made to seem just as bad by association.
It is way more fun to watch and see the pareidolia aspect of everything though; it's absolutely fascinating.

Hold up, why is the office two rooms in? Why can't it just be the first chamber off the lobby area?
This Trilogy as a whole
Very few people "Get it"
>>>What we were trying to achieve with the story overall was a shift, the same kind of shift that happens for Neo, that Neo goes from being in this sort of cocooned and programmed world, to having to participate in the construction of meaning to his life. And we were like, ‘Well, can the audience go through the three movies and experience something similar to what the main character experiences?’
>>>So the first movie is sort of classical in its approach, the second movie is deconstructionist and an assault on all the things you thought to be true in the first movie…and the third movie is the most ambiguous, because it asks you to actually participate in the construction of meaning.

I'm of the opinion that the movie is less about the shining and more about how crazy those people are.

False. Bound For Glory was the first. Also Garrett Brown has nothing but good things to say about Kubrick. Nice try

Stupid pleb there's no such thing as symbolism
It took me four or five viewings of this to realizethat I use movies to escape reality. My life isn't that bad but I have a desperate need to be liked by everyone so when I get anything other than positive attention from other people, I feel like they hate me. This makes everyday interactions excruciating because I feel like the entire world is disgusted by my presence. I realize how egocentric this is and that really no one even notices me, but I can't stop the panic when it comes on. I watch movies like Drive over and over again because for a short amount of time I can pretend to be the Driver and live his little slice of life. I can feel close to the woman and child that care about him and feel strong when he protects them. I can feel nostalgia for the 80s when I wasn't even alive. I feel this low-level pain in my heart knowing even if I could get the courage to leave my apartment for something other than work or buying food, I will never feel these feelings in real life. One day I will die and all of these fake memories will disappear. No one will have benefited and the world will be exactly as it was.

Primer. But it's too boring to watch more than once, so in practice you need diagrams like this.
But I do appreciate how it's the only movie with completely logical and consistent time travel.

The hotel is so beautiful that the movie is actually more comforting than it is scary.
Also Jack Nicholson's acting is always amusing.

>False. It was a different time, normies knew shit about VR, computing, etc...
matrix came out in 1999(a decade after max headroom, half a decade after lawnmower man), everyone had internet and was downloading at napster, chatting via icq, yahoo and irc(a year later the first dotcom bubble bursted). i remember playing some quake like games with vr shutter glasses in 3d in 1997. and almost everyone was aware of holodeck stuff because at this time there were 3 fucking star trek series running in parallel every afternoon (ds9, voy and tng reruns).
matrix was a bad mashup/ripoff of a shitload of animes and older movies(gits, world on a wire etc..)
it's only achievement was making dumb people feel clever because "hey i get that!!!!111"
source : i'm an old fart who watched it back then at the cinema and had to explain it to the dumb bitch a dated back then.....
