It's not edgy, you condemn alex's actions but by the end of the film respect his free will.

The film posits that violence is an inherent part of human nature. And high brow entertainment like mozart is a product of it. Violence is an inescapable part of human nature, if you try and control it, you remove that person's humanity.

Every world power has used that in their military at one point of another. The film dares you to ask is Alex truly different than us? Or is the reason he is allowed to come back into society and become a person of power like a politician the perfect avenue for his violent behavior.

The politician sees the Beethoven bust in his jail cell and immediately sees that and respects it. Obviously the government in this film is corrupt, and allows the degradation of society to occur but does nothing. Is what alex does truly worse than the subversion of the governments that have been around since the beginning of civilization?

For that reason this is my favorite film, because it not only allows you to understand Alex for who he is, but you respect him because he is truly free and able to live through unfiltered humanity.
>>
>>83959557
Have you read the book? The ending is quite different.
>>
>>83959611
Yes, and that's why the film is superior. It's a cop out for Alex to change, it completely ruins any meaning in the work. That's why Kubrick is a genius.
>>
>>83959636
Gotta agree with you Kubrick had a superior ending in the shining as well

>>
>>83959557
i disagree his worldview is unfiltered, as if decency and morality isnt part of huamn nature as well but agree seeing his incarceration and then escape to freedom is refreshing because its genuine even if its bad and criminal
>>
>>83959689
Jokes on you anon. The book released in the US didnt have that final chapter where alex does change. Kubrick never knew that was the true ending because that ending was only in the UK novel. Kubric himself was pissed and wished he got to include the original ending
>>
>>83961299

he wasn't pissed, he did find out after the fact but said it made no difference he stands by his film.
>>
>>83961299
Interesting I didn't know this. How bizarre to release a book without the last chapter in a different country, do you know why they did that?

Decency and morality aren't part of human nature, we get that from God.
>>
>>83962311
I thought he was great for the role he was supposed to play. All the characters in the movie are supposed to be absurd and eccentric in some way. His wackiness added to the weirdness of that whole part of the film. I've always enjoyed his performance.

The Book had the exact opposite message, and the movie cut out the critical final chapter in which Alex reflects on and realises the error of his ways.

> "We all suffer from the popular desire to make the known notorious. The book I am best known for, or only known for, is a novel I am prepared to repudiate: written a quarter of a century ago, a jeu d'esprit knocked off for money in three weeks, it became known as the raw material for a film which seemed to glorify sex and violence. The film made it easy for readers of the book to misunderstand what it was about, and the misunderstanding will pursue me until I die. I should not have written the book because of this danger of misinterpretation"

>The film posits that violence is an inherent part of human nature

Jackass, the morale of the story is that the obsession with sex and violence is a symptom of morale degeneration of society. That much should be obvious even through the broken adaptation.
>>
>>83965277
the moral is sex and violence is natural, prudishness isn't
>>
>>83965309

It's really not, this is why the writer of the book became butt hurt, because idiots watched the film and were too stupid to pick up on the subtleties of the story and understand the message.
>>
>>83965277
>the morale of the story is that the obsession with sex and violence is a symptom of morale degeneration of society
He literally says at the end of the book that society has always been like that and it's just something people grow out of

>>
>>83959557
Why does no one ever bring up that the film also gives commentary on how criminals are perceived by the public? I've never seen someone bring up that it portrays the public as unforgiving, despite Alex taking his punishment. In fact, it is clear that Alex has been 'rehabilitated' (The point of jail) but no one trust's him - he's met with hatred and fear.
