The very end of Tenth Planet 1.

They were meant to have gloves but the costume folk forgot to give them, so they spray painted the actors hands silver.
>>
Wish they'd give Neil Gaiman another shot at an episode in the future. He seems like he's up for it in any case.
I didn't like Nightmare in Silver, but The Doctor's Wife was an amazing episode. I think Gaiman really shines when doing his own thing, using his own ideas and creations. Telling him to do a Cyberman story ruined Nightmare in Silver.
Seriously, if you replaced the Cybermen in that episode with an original monster from the mind of Gaiman, it would've been so much better. Giant, abandoned fairground planet is such a good setting, but the episode was ruined by forcing the Cybermen in, oh and the child actors.

BBC have been reported have been working hard with their marketing team to find out how to boost ratings with younger audiences and win back viewers that left after the RTD era

Child psychologists have been doing extensive research to figure out what points would resonate the best with child audiences, and multiple focus groups have managed to pinpoint the best working format for Doctor Who

It was found that children and young teens respond best to cgi characters and more a more cartoony presence. BBC execs, also concerned with how well the current branding is received by today's public , as well as making sure the show is relocatable and hip with the 10-15 age margin.

Under Chris Chibnal, Doctor who, with the backing of millions worth of market research, will see the biggest reboot the show has seen since it was revived in 2005. For the first time in over 50 years the Doctor will be played by a cgi character.

I present to you, the thirteenth doctor, and revamped IP... Doctor Poo
>>
>>83948388
Neil's busy with American Gods. I liked both his DW offerings and wouldnt mind a return to the show, but if the rumors are true about Chinball's writer's room that possibility is pretty unlikely. Unfortunately the closest we'll probably get to Gaiman writing for doctor who will be another Marquis De carabas/Neverwhere story. Even more so that I hear they've banned chocolate from the DW set since Neil's last visit.

Seriously though, when will we know who'll play the next Doctor? I'm pretty sure we knew about Tennant, Smith and Capaldi at this point in the series back then.

We found out about Smith on 3 January 2009.
We found out about Capaldi on 4 August 2013.
>>
>>83947618
He may not be The Doctor, but he -is- a Time Lord.
>>
>>83949399
right at the end of episode 12 when Capaldi regenerates by surprise
>>
They should really have Capaldi regenerate in the finale. It'd give the show a real fucking boost to end S10 on a high, and get people talking about it again. But as it stands, they'll probably fakeout with some guff then we're waiting til Christmas to see 13. Yawn.
>>
The Doctor gave up one of his kidneys for Nardole, but now his remaining kidney is failing.
>>
>>83949492
I have heard 13 does make an appearance in the last episode of the series
>>
>>83949492
My bets are on Capaldi starting his regeneration at the end of the series, but he'll suppress it until the end of the Christmas Special. That way it'll be "different than usual" as Moff said. Then at the end of the Special, we'll see him actually regenerate and turn into Kris Marshall.

So we knew about Smith before Planet of the Dead, the start of Tennant's "season" of specials.
And we knew about Capaldi three months before the 50th anniversary.

They're really breaking habit here. We should have known who's replacing the Doctor by now. I wonder how they kept it all so quiet, and why.
>>
>>83948134
Bet that's Bill, look at the thighs
>>
>>83949748
13 obviously appears in the finale at some point. That recent Moffat interview basically gave it away where he said Capaldi's regeneration is different and ep12 ends unexpectedly
>>
>>83949748
In an interview with Moffat on 3rd June, he said: "They're zeroing in on their casting choice, scripts are in the works." So maybe #13 has only very recently signed on the dotted line.
>>
>>83949813

>>83949810
But isn't Capaldi in the Christmas Special, as the main lead Doctor?

>>83949813
We know Moffat lies, and I don't believe a word of that. The Doctor will have been cast weeks or months ago. They can't be "zeroing in" at this point.

I am positive that it's Marshall. He's available, has some fame, but not too much, and has that look about him; not unattractive but not gorgeous, slightly odd face.
>>
>>83949926
Capaldi said he 'filmed his death', and something along the lines of he knows 'how it happens, but not why it happens'.

If true, my best guess would be the Christmas special is set before the events of ep11/12, maybe just after Husbands of River Song, what causes him to die will be shown, and it will be revealed that 12 has in fact been in the process of regenerating for an entire year
>>
>>83949971
Agreed. Between him and Andrew Buchan, it just has to be Kris because he has the slight kooky edge
>>
>>83948709
That reminds me. I know Moffat said he had to do a lot of script re-writing or something as showrunner, but does that therefore mean that the reason his stories under RTD were so good was because he had them re-written by RTD, and would that explain why he's created nothing but pure shit since he took over?
>>

>>83949971
Davies knows, apparently
>>
>>83949971
>>83949997
Yeah, this. Buchan is the stronger actor but Kris Marshall is more doctory
>>
>>83950002
RTD said he didn't rewrite Moffat's scripts, so probably not, no. The most likely cause of Moffat's fall in script quality is the sheer amount of work he's had to do. He went from one script a year to about 5 a year, whilst overseeing everything, and Sherlock.
>>
>>83950002
It's the difference between having an editor and having none, and writing a couple of event episodes a year and writing most of it plus overseeing everyone else's work. And the fact that he began as a sitcom writer really, really counts. He defaults to feed/punchline comedy.
>>
>>83949971
Marshall would be a dreadful choice. I'd rather a black woman played it than that one-note Tory no-mark.
>>
If it's true that he does regenerate at the end of the series I hope the BBC don't announce the new actor beforehand, or some douchebag leaks it. A surprise regeneration/not knowing who the actor is when watching the scene would be genuinely cool

>>
>>83950174
Not a specific link, but I believe it's in RTD's book "The Writer's Tale" amongst other stuff. I think RTD had a general sort of rule whereby if the writer had produced their own show before, he didn't rewrite them.

Unlike some of the suggestions, Kris can actually act. He's been in multiple TV shows playing a serious role, and he's done theatre. And yes, he's got that kooky, doctory look for sure.

He can't act. He's just a cunt from My Family and some adverts. Death in Paradise is dross. Anyone can "do theatre". Peter Wyngarde did theatre. Marshall's face is an uncooked bean pasty.

My Family was like a decade or more ago. He's moved up, done some crime dramas, threatre etc. Also Death in Paradise is great in my opinion, and constantly gets 10million+ audiences in. If you look at it from the BBC's view, Marshall's a good choice who might pull in some drastically needed figures into DW.
Regarding his face, I wouldn't describe it as an uncooked bean pasty, but it's certainly "other", which I think is good for a Doctor.

Agreed. If it's true, I'll be very much delighted.

It's funny how every time someone mentions Marshall people jump on it and say we're from Reddit or we're trying to force the issue, or that we're secretly Kris Marshall on 4chan trying to get publicity. I think in general, a lot of us think Kris could pull it off, and a lot of us think he actually is the next Doctor.

>>
>>83950050

This rings pretty true for me. He does seem to default to glib, quippy banter a lot, and it really started to dominate the dialogue from series 6.

I only really like Empty Child/ Doctor Dances of Moffat's work now- well, I say like, they're my all-time favorites, and I do think they're timeless classics - I don't think they're ever going to date or age.

It's surprising to me that episodes I loved when I was younger (Girl in the Fireplace, the Library 2-parter) haven't held up to re-watches in the same way that his first 2-parter did. Reinette appears as a proto-River, someone soulfully, simperingly infatuated with the Doctor to the point of total, mindless devotion - and the Doctor in that episode is an absolute psychopath, happily abandoning Rose and Mickey in the far -off future without even a shred of guilt or concern because he gets to bang the world's most celebrated prostitute. The Library episodes suffer for similar reasons.

In hindsight, it's impossible to watch them without bringing in the baggage from Moffat's tenure - Silence and Forest of the Dead are a sort of pseudo-prequel to Moffat's Doctor, given that River's only function seems to be to spout teasers for how much cooler the Doctor will be in a series' time.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask was - given that Moffat does tend to rely on comedy as a crutch in his writing, what do you guys think is Moffat's most emotional episode/ story?
>>
>>83950841
How has he moved up? He cannot act. Death in Paradise is purest pigswill. His face is other alright, it's other-than-appealing. If I saw that pasty on the Reduced shelf at the supermarket I'd wince and say "we still have some pride, fuck's sake".

No, because nobody did go crazy except a small number of teenage girls who thought the show began with Tennant. Also, Matt Smith could act. Kris Marshall's life is a shameful waste.

Moff doesn't really seem to care about the 1st Doctor era outside of the fact that it is the 1st era plus he thinks the first episode was GOAT. I feel like he'd turn in a really flat version of the character much like The Five Doctors, but unlike The Five Doctors he'd try to make him carry a dramatic plot. But I think the whole David Bradley thing is pretty unlikely to happen anyway.

Holy fuck Eaters of Light looks atrocious. The ancient and medieval episodes have absolutely shit and poorly researched costume designed. I wish they'd stop doing them until they get someone who knows the costume design of the ERA. They go victorian onwards great but anything before that is cringe inducing especially those Horned Vikings. I dread medieval and ancient episodes because of this. Fires of Pompeii was the only good one aesthetically.
