Nobody actively commits to, or worship the New Gods, it's just the faith of those concept being there and the evergrowing reliance on them, that creates the gods and gives them power.
Vulcan is a "rebranding" but still works on Old God logic, so he doesn't count.

Also, folklore creatures exist, probably by virtue of believing as well, and probably a good number of people are obsessed with the concept of a "boogieman". Given that the actual blood sacrifice was related to Slenderman, it may have actually sprung to existence.

My take on it is that the gods exist and have made their presence known to mortals who then worship them and give them attention, not the other way around (mortals inventing gods). So, the modern gods existed before their inventors made them up and perhaps they inspired them to create them like a muse.

The book says Gods are not exclusive to one field or are, and there are many Gods for a single "theme" and "subthemes". There is a Media god, sure, but that doesn't mean there is not a TV god, Movie god, etc.

In the book they ask if Media was one of the Goddesses who kills "their" children, making a reference how there is, lets say, a Sports god, but there can also be Gods of the different sports.
