And his biggest weakness is not ceding control of the stories to his movies over to competent scriptwriters. This was... eh. A real mix of good and not so good. It didn't need so much expository narration over every scene. Even though the entire point is to be a hook to see if people want more, they could have still told a real story, not just some vignettes. eg. kept the focus on the 'convoy' bombing attack through to the end, not shifted to this entirely different other operation. they tease two completely different potential saviors (angel aliens and precog negro) but don't show them doing anything (sort of implied the bulk of the action in the third part to be prec-nogs vision? but don't show how it would change thanks to that foresight).

they just threw EVERYTHING at the wall. which is weird for what is supposed to be just one entry in an anthology series (with at least two other parts just in this first 'volume').

It's shit. The effects and props are amazing but the scene has no tonal direction and the editing staggers.

To those complaining about originality, what is a possible story about aliens that HASN'T already been told? I'm pretty sure we've completely used up that premise. Even pretty original executions like Under the Skin boil down to a basic premise we've seen before.

There was some European short that got picked up and is being turned into a feature.
The story is thin and it feels like 20 minute pitch to make a 2 hr film.
