As a single guy i saw it for the action, the sinking parts mostly. There were a TON of couples who saw it, so you're basically doubling ticket sales there. Plus a lot of marine/history enthusiasts saw it because they knew Cameron's attention to details

It was pure kino

It's a high-budget disaster movie about the most famous maritime disaster in history with meticulous attention to details, with an added romance plot for the women. It's also got a classic underdog story with the poor but street-smart Jack tussling with a rich asshole.

It's got fucking everything. Hell, I enjoy watching it simply because it's a well-made costume-drama. I'm just a sucker for movies and tv-shows taking place in the past and showing the class-divide.
