Pharaoh had already hardened his heart, in Exodus 7:13, 22; 8:15, 19 etc. God used this to show his power as the one True God, BTFOing the gods of egypt (which is just one reason why the bible is amazing, the plagues representing God's power over the Egyptian Gods) before sending the angel of death and making him relent.
God isn't spitey as much as He has a need to show off His power, but let's be honest, if you were God you'd probably do the same.

Right? I rewatched it recently and I was like holy shit, Artax dies like almost right away, we barely had time to give a shit about him. I think it's a combination of great filmmaking, very dramatic acting on the part of Atreyu, and our imaginations when we were kids. I didn't realize until I grew up that my imagination made movies seem like they were so much longer and like so much more shit happened in them. Kind of like when you have a dream that lasts for days or weeks but in reality it's just one night. That's what watching movies (and reading books) was like as a kid. At least for me. I really miss that.

The virus one was fucking shit in every regard, from animation to storyline. It boggles my mind that anyone could possible prefer it, but I keep hearing about people who loved it. I can only assume that they were all five years old when it came out and have a massive case of nostalgia because it was the first movie they saw.

The virus one is no better than any of the diamond dozen direct-to-dvd Scooby movies that were released just to grab some cash. Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost were the only ones trying something new.
