I don't think this will ever be topped, after BvS was such a disappointment, and Whedon has been given the reigns to JL.

It's a geniune coming of age story. Snyder's love of the American core family is a refreshing break from the standard Hollywood stories portraying sterile relationships in sterile worlds.

I disagree, but I'd rather not get into a discussion about it in an MoS appreciation thread.

Instead, I have a question for you and fellow fans:

Do you guys have someone in your life, living or dead, whose wisdom is becoming more apparent to you as you grow older?

On a peak in the Andes. Only the chaddest of DChads ever make it to the top. Once you're up there, you have to defeat a succession of 12 progressively stronger Costners in single combat and tests of wisdom before you can even perceive the entrance.

The couple in the picture were granted entry by virtue of a rare planetary alignment.

I stayed away from it when it was first released because I thought it might be shit, but I finally watched it this year and...it...was...really good. Hell I watched it on TV with commercials which adds like 40 minutes viewing time, something I never do, but I found the film so gripping that I could look away. The sheer awe of it all, truly good stuff. I know Snyder often trades spectacle for real plot development, but this is a fucking Superman movie. Spectacle is a must, and Snyder delivered. I am a bit biased because I have seen all of Zach Snyder's movies and I met him on the set of BvS but I've never been a superman fan and I never thought he was a good choice for director of a super film so I entered the viewing fairly impartial. But everything was good. The acting was good, the characters and motivated were good, the score was good, the cinematography was good, the fighting coordination was good, and the CGI while not the best still created breathtaking scenes of an otherworldly nature. My criticisms of the film are the color grading, which as many have said is kinda lifeless and cold, Amy fucking Adams who I hate in any movie, and the globalist undertones of rejecting your own family and your people (Zod) but even though I personally didn't agree with Superman's choice his inner conflict was well defined enough to make me enjoy the drama between Zod and Kal-el without thinking about politics at all.

Good stuff. 8.2/10. Anyone seen the fanedit where they correct the color to a more vivid tone?

>>83908915
Even more to the point, it's sending a message about real maturity and the beginnings of wisdom. The Superman, by virtue of being the single most powerful character, must also be the wisest, because his decisions and actions can literally shape the world.

Even by the end of MoS, he's only just barely coming to understand the lessons of his childhood, and that's not just true of him, that's true of almost anyone who grew up with good parents.

In my case, I lost my dad right about the same time I was old enough to not think of him as a total idiot.

No it isn't. You should be able to provide an answer, given your superior wisdom, yes? All it will reveal is how much or how little you understand about real heroism and responsibility, and that shouldn't be all that hard to do, considering how infantile the subject matter is, right?

It's just a simple movie put together to sell toys, so it can't possibly be all that complicated a message. That's your whole argument succinctly stated, so stop dodging a simple question or admit just maybe you're not as above it all as you like to think you are.

Other movies don't get seen by nearly as many people as the average capeshit, and to say there's no debate around other movies is provably false. Just look at anything David Lynch has made.

Irredeemable filth -- it takes a Christopher Nolan to have Superman's earthly father suggest that young Clark Kent should let a schoolbus full of kids drown rather than reveal his superpowers, but it takes a Zack Snyder to encase General Zod inside a fullbody metallic dildo before sending him into the Phantom Zone. And it takes both of them to grossly exploit 9/11 imagery with all those collapsing skyscrapers. Cinemalets please keep to your twitter memeing and pretending VA understanding

Earlier on, another guy in the "all MoS fans are pseuds" insisted that the Kents weren't good parents, and I asked him, "What do you owe the world?"

I'm a guy that thinks what they did with the flashbacks to Clark's childhood was illustrate the changing relationship between a child and his parents, but I don't think that's all they're doing. I also think they're sending a subtle message that wisdom doesn't always look like wisdom.

Both MoS and BvS are filled with back-reveals. In MoS, they center around Jonathan Kent, where the last scene with him hints that he always hoped his son would grow into a hero. The thing is, though - you don't raise a hero by preaching heroism to them. You do it by raising them to think of themselves as no more important than anyone else and to make their own decisions, to live their own life, not the life they think other people expect them to live.

That's the contrast between Jor-El and Jonathan. Even though Jor-El doesn't *want* to be a part of Krypton's deterministic society, he is still very much a child of it. He seeks to give his son a purpose. Jonathan, on the other hand, is all about instilling in his son that whatever man he decides to be is completely his decision, not his responsibility. Choosing to step into the role that Jor-El makes Clark aware of is what makes him a hero - choosing to be a symbol and a bridge between two peoples, not surrendering to a predestined role. In short, it's the marriage of the ideals of both his fathers - finding a purpose and choosing to pursue it.

Nope! Kryptonians have taken charge of their own evolution, letting the AI determine what direction to take them in and using all the options at their disposal to do it.

That's one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the Krypton series. I want to see if they take that into the creepy places it could go. Guys like Nam-Ek sort of hint that it might.

Why does Snyder get no respect? He has a vision that he clearly stays true to in his films and is also true to the source material but with an Autuer take on them. SO why the hate? You don't even have to like his films but I'd figure people would respect him for his take and personal style of filmmaking and not to mention his top 10 favorite films and reasonings for liking them.

My uncle who actually reminds me a lot of Costner's Pa Kent. My mother also reminds me of Martha too. Ironically enough, my Aunt is also like a second mother and her name is "Martha".

MoS strikes a cord with me 2bh. I haven't seen a movie resonate with me so personally. I grew up a lot like Clark did and even have the superman look. The movie inspired me to be a better version of myself and try to help any person around me to the best of my ability. Hell, I live by this movie so much my wife is ironically looks like Amy Adams.

Why people hate this movie is beyond me. It inspires more hope than any superhero movie Marvel puts out now.

>>
>>83907897
The visuals were outstanding, but once it was over I had a hard time recalling what the movie felt like. Some of the motifs didn't sit right. Superman claimed to resemble hope, but I felt the movie was persistent in trying to contradict that by having Supe behave like he was depressed. "You will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards" -- Superman was to be a symbol for humanity, but by the end of the movie he has wrought epic destruction. He might have inspired the military guy, but besides that he inspired no one. I just think that is an important part of Superman that the DCEU has skimmed over in their efforts to depict him as god.

If you don't understand that the final scene and snapping of zods neck wasn't just an awesome fight scene for the sake of a fight scene. It was put there to show that Superman still hasn't gained self control. It's used to creat the controversy around him for the next films. If you watched the movie and thought, like many others, "wow Superman tries to kill the villain but destroys the city! Bad film making! This doesn't make any sense!" You should probably steer clear. DC movies aren't like MCU movies. They aren't campy and they don't always end on a good note. They bring out the weaknesses of the hero through his actions. Not explicitly saying he is evil.
MoS is a solid 8/10 Henry Cavill is such a natural Superman it's almost like he was born for the roll.
