I watched 5 episodes of the original. This show is an 80s/90s soap opera. I suppose people originally liked it because there was a huge shortage of "dark" tv around '91.

But it's extremely uneventful and there's usually some scandal of someone fucking someone other than their wife/gf. Maybe this was shocking back in the day, it's just boring now.

Agent Cooper's extremely chipper weirdness is amusing and the dream sequences are cool. But that's not enough to redeem it from being any better than soap opera tier.

So making this a modern day show seem bound to fail. It was only winning by default in the early 90s because it cornered the market for a dark primetime evening show, which the turn of the 80s/90s had very little of.

This third season is full on Lynchian and holds practically no similarity to the original seasons

Thankfully it's a daring, new and highly idiosyncratic take on the episodic television drama. This of course means that those driven by nostalgia moreso than curiosity have been successfully alienated.
