this is such a great bizzaro movie. mostly i think the point is to make fun of american culture and bureaucracies of the 80s, which still translates really well to today. it's 'depressing' (you little bitch) because it's of it accuracies.

I am reaching twice as old as Otto was, so I am slowly beginning to "get" what this movie was really about. I just refuse to believe it was all there were.

The way I see it if Otto didn't get the UFO car he was bound to end up poor like every other characters. And that's depressing for me because I am realizing it a bit too late.
