Rewatching this right now and I think Blain and Mac were gay. after Blain dies Arnold tells Mac he was a good soldier. Mac responds with "He was my...friend" and during the pause he looks away like he's trying to find the right word to use. Kind of explains his behavior and state of mind after Blains death.

that was what they were doing. the chopper couldn't pick them up because there were to many guerrillas in the jungle. they didn't stop until they knew something was hunting them and they had to try and fight it, because it was only going to keep picking them off one by one.

He was but when the Predator killed the guy who was incapacitated he made a split second decision to split up. His idea was that the Predator would follow him and not the woman. It worked.
