Sheryl Lee and Ray Wise were incredible in FWWM. It's good that their finally getting recognition, even if it's 24 years after the film came out.

To the other anons that actually like Lynch and are enjoying this. How do you want this to end? Part of me wants a good ending, something bittersweet but uplifting, like FWWM or Inland Empire. But part of me wants to just be absolutely crushed. Not in a cheap shocking way, but just a tasteful, very depressing ending. honestly, I'll be pretty down if this doesn't have a "happy" ending. I am not talking about Blade Runner theatrical cut ending, but it's hard for me to imagine David Lynch being in love with this series for decades, to the point of holding goofy mock interviews with the characters on his own dime, without some desire to see them succeed and not go full David Fincher-edgelord on them.

maybe I am setting myself up, but I think Lynch and co. are with their fans in the sense that they've been wanting to tastefully close the book on the world on a somewhat optimistic note.

Otherwise, what would be the point of going through all this effort to revive the series? Contrary to what some posters here think, trolling people (AHAHAHAHA LYNCHED) is a very cheap and fleeting feeling, that quickly passes, when an emotional heft is needed.

Need proof? It's already in the show/series itself, going from the HAHA GOTCHA ending of the TV show to the more emotionally satisfying ending of FWWM.

Lynch learned a lot of lessons from his late careers. It'll probably turn out as a high-speed fully wound up baseball bat to the stomach because that's how he rolls.

Lynch also likes to be VERY DIRECT with symbolism when it comes to tone. Have we seen a 'guardian angel' yet? In a shitload of his movies the 'salvation' of the main characters are often tied directly to how much of a role some sort of angel plays in their story. On the maximally 'good' end of the spectrum we have Wild at Heart, and at the maximally bad we have FWWM and Lost Highway. In the former, the angel literally appears to save Nic Cage and then leaves.

In FWWM the angel imagery appears three times. Laura has a small painting which represents her limited attempts to resist her situation and find tranquility. The second instance is Anne who seems to appear (bloodied) to try to help Coop and Laura. Finally, Laura herself takes on that imagery at the end to save the Polawski girl.

In Lost Highway we basically get zero angel imagery at all, and possibly the worst outcome of any Lynch character ever. At least Laura saves another and remains defiant of Bob till the end.

For season 3? No angel imagery so far. No Anne. All that points to some really dark future for Coop and the good guys. But hey, it showed up last minute in Wild at Heart, so who knows.
