Once upon a time in the west makes it to my favourite, every time I think about it then I want to put 3 hours aside and watch it again. Then it's The good, the bad and the ugly. I haven't watched as many westerns as I want to. Need to watch The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Probably the best choice for modern viewers who might not have the best exposure to Westerns.

Ramones one of the best Western villains and the grimdark nature of the massacre showed how sadistic him and his family really were.

I always hated the Ned Kelly inspired standoff ending though. Bit too on the nose to how 'fantastic' the The Man With No Name is meant to be...

Is it bad I prefer the remakes of 3:10 To Yuma and True Grit? I watched the originals more but the endings of both remakes where the protagonist dies hit me in my feels more.

Original 3:10 he hops thw train with his quarry and they seem all buddy buddy. True Grit remake is definitely superior ending imo because Maddie ends up alone with the one person left dead as a bitter spinster never finding true happiness and the credits song is what hits me.

That's my starting pack that I would recommend to most anyone. I've seen a few more westerns. But typically just start with one from each section. Classic Ford Westerns can be hard to get into for most people because they can feel a bit dated. But I think they're great.
