Anybody else have trouble with writing or thinking of any screenplays or stories? The most I can ever think of is maybe the synopsis and tone but actually fleshing out a story and plot takes a long time and more often than not comes out pretty trash.
Plot is easy to come up with. If writing plots doesn't come natural to you, then you are not a natural story teller. This isn't that big of a problem because you can learn to become one with dedication and practice.
If you can easily write out and develop the story element that's a good thing. It's more important to be able to create interesting stories than it is to be able write compelling plots. In my humble opinion story beats plot 90% of the time.
But without the one the other is no good. I guess if you can't really do either you have a long way to go before ever completing a competently written screenplay, or "story" for that matter.
Often I find that new writers fail because they don't know exactly what they are writing about. This has become somewhat of a trope, but is very true to life. In that case I suggest you look for something that you feel passionate about, and do a bit of research. The story will come naturally and then once you have that established you can easily work on a plot to be able to write out that screenplay.

That's some good advice man thanks! Although I only plan to write to get myself off the ground and until and to a point where I can just direct (although that might change). I think that personally I'm just more of a visual guy because that's where I truly feel comfortable and good.
You can always search for aspiring writers and short stories to adapt material into something you can direct.

Yeah I've started trying to look for inspiration inside my own experiences and in the stories of other people and films.

I can only do synopsis as well. Maybe I need a writing partner.
