I was never even close to being near the target audience for the show. With that said, I found the first 4 seasons moderately entertaining. Crazy Eyes and anyone else that won an award was over-hyped. Even with that, the show was still mildly humorous at times and somewhat entertaining.

8 episodes into this season and it seems like this entire season was written by the dumbest fucking BLM protesters in the country.

I don't understand why Taystee didn't just let the system do its job. The governor literally gave in to the rest of the demands EXCEPT Poussey's wrongful death, which Figueroa explained was a separate legal issue, and of corse Taystee had to flip her shit because "the system don't work for us."
They turned in Daya in an attempt to get amnesty by "sacrificing one life for countless others," but couldn't put off Poussey's death because it would be treated as a "separate legal issue." It was frustrating how long the riot lasted, especially when the high profile celebrity chef was released. It was also annoying how much indulging the prisoners got for the for their demands when there was absolutely no need to. This season should've been a harsh reality of the consequences the inmates for trying to take over a prison. You know, for a comedy show about prison. There is a complete fucking lack cynicism here. I wanted to like it but there were a lot of stupid things about ti dragging it down. Even more so than usual.

Piscatella becoming a psycho Jason rip-off who tortured people made no sense with his backstory. When he was talking about stripping away Red's shell so everyone could see who she truly was, it made it seem like they were leading up to his prison boyfriend betraying him or something which would have fit with his speech and explained why he was so unforgivably harsh on inmates. But nope, turns out his boyfriend just got raped by another inmate in max. What a surprise, a violent criminal did something violent.

As others have pointed out, them not even saying anything about Suzanne even though she was one of the factors directly responsible for Poussey's death. The amount of times she's caused problems for everyone and they just hand wave it and try to make you unironically feel sorry for her is ridiculous. And then anyone who who even mentions doing the smart thing and abandoning her is pretty much crucified and treated like a complete monster even though she's a huge liability and there's no reason to keep her around.

Red being a drugged up cartoon character for half the season was dumb, but her and Blanca made a nice team at least. Her flashback was cute too.

Piper and Alex continue to be the worst characters in the show. The scenes with them playing house and when Piper proposes were actually painful to watch. Piper is only entertaining when she's trying to act like a hardened bitch and having it backfire on her, and Alex is only tolerable when she's not around Piper. Since they were together almost all season we just got the worst moments with them.

I actually didn't mind Taystee letting everything go to shit with the negotiations since at least people called her out on it. There was a slight chance things could have genuinely improved and made the riot worthwhile, but she fucked it all up because it was more a matter of pride for her than justice.

All of that was after they had been captured while being held at gunpoint. First they were being held in the guard cell with nothing but a poop bucket and the prison slop to eat. They inmates wouldn't let them lay down or sleep for too long and would constantly bang on the window to wake them up once they started getting comfortable. The guard in question also got taken to The Poo and locked inside it for at least a day and a half before they took him out again at knife point. Even if he was physically stronger them, his hands were literally tied up, he was tired and mentally shaken, and had seen firsthand that they inmates were unstable enough to actually hurt them.

Like I said, in the very beginning of the riot there's a scene where he and the other guard get jumped with one of the inmates literally jumping on his back from behind. He says something like "absolutely not" and flips her over and pins her down without hesitation while his buddy takes down another one who tries to charge him. Then later on they're high-fiving each other and bragging about how they managed to capture four inmates. So surely if he was in a position to actually fight back he would have had no problem actually taking them on.

Meh, it wasn't that bad. Coates had been hiding for a while, he knew that all of the entrances were barricaded/locked and that there was no escape (save for getting to the roof and jumping, but he's not been established to be a smart character). So for him it was either knock those two girls out and continue hiding or just be taken hostage with the other guards and ride the riot out.

Two methheads he could probably deal with, but there's no way he could take on the entire prison (the skinheads alone would have him for breakfast).

All of this is discounting the fact that the riot had been going on for a while any many prisoners had weapons, with at least 1 gun floating around somewhere. Being taken hostage is definitely not the worst thing in that situation. I think the show has been entirely realistic in it's depictions of physical strength.

They had hostages, it was already getting media attention, and it was a minimum security women's prison. The Governor was also intentionally denying them permission to storm in because he wanted to try and keep it as on the down low as possible so it didn't look too bad to the press and potentially ruin his chances of getting re-elected or whatever. They also had no idea where exactly the hostages were being held either or what the inmates would do if they were truly threatened.

There is a difference between a minimum security and maximum security prison. I had a friend in a minimum security prison and from his description of it, it is mostly like what goes on at Litchfield.

I can't say what they'd do in the event of a riot, especially one in which all of the guards are somehow taken hostage. The hostages and barricades were the main justification for all the bullshit they pull throughout the season. And the lack of training and under-staffing (and that there were no firearms in this prison) was the justification for them being able to take the prison hostage.

They killed the friendship she had with Yoga Jones which was the only redeeming thing about her and she hasn't had any other moments since, unless you count comforting Soso sort of. She's just around to be Taystee's yes man and get angry at people.

She's manageable when she's on her meds and none of the old guards ever saw her chimp out or attack someone. As far as they were concerned she's crazy but not dangerous. Even in Season 2 when Vee was trying to frame her for murder, they didn't really treat her as a threat because they didn't know what she was capable of when she goes on her retard rages.

Her actress plays the part well, but I agree her shtick is old at this point and she does nothing but put everyone else in dangerous situations trying to cover for her. But she's a fan favorite so she's likely never going to go away.

Actually, the whole riot mess is mainly Caputo's fault: hiring the incompetent kid as prison guard was negligent and irresponsible, and his refusal to fire fucked up Bayley was the dumbest thing ever.

This shows really good in my opinion honestly, all the SJW shit people are saying it's pushing I really don't see, none of the prisoners you're supposed to really sympathize for or feel too hard for, they're all usually wrong in their own way and things that work out for them only halfway work out for them.

I really liked Crazy Eyes' backstory. It was definitely the most nailbiting one because all this time you expected it to be that she went crazy, got violent, and straight up murdered someone. So when she had that kid with her, you were just fucking waiting for it to go hard south. But it ended up just being a sad, shitty situation.
