Eugenics doesn't actually work on humans is the problem with eugenics. Also these genetic disorders have always existed we're just noticing them now because of how many humans there are and because we can keep dead meat alive for much longer.

Genetic Manipulation is the patrician, working, non-barbaric version of eugenics. And ironically it makes people with severe genetic mutations valuable.

Not to get super technical, but Human's recessive traits are different than most animals. Literally the only way to know a humans recessive traits is through genetic testing. Early 20th century eugenics had no chance because they simply did not know enough about the humans they "thought" were genetically superior. A successful person might have completely awful recessive traits. A person they sterilized might of had amazing recessive traits. With humans there is no way of knowing with out genetic testing.

Lets say you've selected a large group of the finest humans on earth. You let them reproduce and kill off all the babies that are undesirable. No matter how many generations they breed the number of babies that you have to kill in order to maintain genetic purity will be the same.
