It was pretty good. It seems to have a VERY HEAVY Rami influence because there were many intentional Dark Comedy/Campy moments.

I don't really understand what the fuck critics problem is, other than easy dismissal because of remake.

Critically I'd give it like a 6.5/10, but it was entertaining.

I really hate Jerkyll/Hyde parts though. It's just not going to work. They REALLY should have done him first because honestly he feels tacked on as fuck. His Hyde gets completely overshadowed in power by Amunet and he barely seems like a threat.

This movie isnt terrible. It just has a bad second act where the humor fails like thay bathroom scene that should have been cut.

Otherwise first act was fun before the plane scene, Russel Crowe was actually really suited as Dr Jeykle and Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella together had some good scenes otherwise the dialogue was bad and Cruise wasnt directed well.

Not Cruise's fault but he seemed to deliver the same expression of "puzzlement" in the second act when talking with Dr Jeykle and others. The director should have got him to give more of an engagement with the acting there otherwise that scene when Cruise's character yells at them to stop torturing the Mummy was really good after she tries to seduce him.

This had potential but unfortunately has many weak spots.

Really liked the scene when the Mummy kills those soldiers in the tunnel and how a close up of her screaming face is shown in darkness with the gunfire being the only light. Movie needed more of the Mummy being scary

IIIIIII NEED TO KNOW NOOOOWWWWWWW

The first two acts of the movie is the same kind of action/horror/comedy that made the Brendan Frasier Mummy so good. Even a scene where a dude gets stabbed comes out hilarious. If they had just stuck with that same feeling, the movie would have easily been 8/10.

The third act is pretty bad, though. The third act is so different from the rest of the movie, in fact, that I'm almost positive they filmed about half a movie, then decided they were actually going to go through with their shared universe and filmed the rest of it to be as average of a comic book action movie as it could possibly be.

All in all, fun, but lacking.

Having seen The Mummy yesterday against my better judgement and being told by a friend that she thought it was meh at best I have to say the whole jump starting a universe as you called it was the biggest sore thumb (amongst others) that stuck out through the entire latter half of the film and just felt completely unnecessary and distracting. And all I could think about was how Marvel and hell even DC handled this sort of thing way better.
Imagine if in the first Iron Man film Nick Fury wasn't just in the after-credits scene but in the entire film throughout talking to Tony Stark about this 'Avenger Initiative' project he's starting, it'd just be incredibly distracting from whats going on in the film at the moment right?
