Only real criticism is Imhotep was incredibly inept and careless. One could argue that he believed he was immortal and had nothing to fear but he took way too long to dispatch of the heroes, even when he had Rick in a chokehold he chose not to merely crush his throat but to make him suffer. those guys were fucking useless. the one thing they were supposed to do was stop people from opening the tomb of the mummy, but they just sat on the ridge and watched an entire excavation crew fuck around in the bowels of the pyramid like it was nbd. if they had fired a few warning shots, or even at least tried to explain that there was an unspeakably powerful ancient evil and you could kill him if you read from that book or killed his girlfriend of whatever but instead they got all assmad when he came to life and were like "you shouldn't have done that, you have no idea what you've released" and everyone's like "YEAH NO SHIT WE DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE BRINGING ABOUT THE LITERAL APOCALYPSE" like seriously why keep that type of information to yourself and then get pissy when the end of the world comes about, they should have fucking written a note on the coffin or just like shot at them when they were riding in, give them some sort of indication that they were on pretty dangerous ground, like even a conflict in which they all died would have been a bit of a warning sign for the westerners, it would show that there are people literally willing to die to protect that tomb/site but instead they fucking sat around and then got all fucking smug when the mummy was out, i reckon they did it on purpose because they were bored

Not that anon, but I always took away that the car crash scene showed him as vulnerable (much like the scene where he patches up his thigh wound in the bathtub), where we don't see him as such through 90% of the movie, to coincide with Tommy Lee Jones' monologue about how Evil keeps going while Good begins to tire out. He's unpredictable and psychotic, but altogether a cold calculating beast. The type of evil that Tommy Lee can't keep up with anymore, let alone stop it.
