probably Scorsese's best film
Can anyone tell me. I thought he died in the hotel and the rest of the movie was a dream sequence. He got shot in the fucking neck and the cops were just standing there watching him bleed to death. Did he die on that couch? Why wouldn't he be in jail? He just goes back to his taxi driver life after everything? and he didn't charge that girl for the ride. was everything after the hotel in his mind?

he dies, the rest of the final sequence is what he thought would've happened if he saved that girl; fame, chick that he loved and peace of mind. It was a prologue

yes
I always get sad when I see a him in a trailer these days
he could really act back in the day

No. The last scene changes perspective between Travis and the people around him, long enough that it can't be his fantasy. When Betsy watches him in the mirror of his car, it's us watching Travis, wich we still really can't understand. We're watching him like Betsy, trying to find out if he is now good or bad.

its not his fantasy dum dumb, its what he thought would happen if he saved the girl from being a pros before he actually did it. betsy wasnt that big of a character that scorceses would denote the entire final sequence to her perspective, her character ended after he ditched travis. it wont make sense to start it over again after her absence for the better part of the film. it doesnt make sense. he cant be alive since he was shot in the neck and blood was squirting out like Niagara falls

exactly. I just watched it a few days ago and this is what I understood. he died on the couch with the neck wound

Scorsese pretty clearly talks about the ending as being real, especially the bit where Travis checks the mirror as a sign that his paranoia hasn't changed
