Forgive me, but aren't fans supposed to be the most critical of something. This would be like if original Star Wars fans pretended the prequels were great because they didn't want to "lose" in their rivalry with Star Trek.

Because ratings are irrelevant on that site. It's either "good" or "bad". The amount of good or bad doesn't matter. A perfect 10/10 review is given as much weight as a mediocre 6/10. They're both "fresh"
