There are more male characters than the Dude, and they are all weak. Look at Walter carrying his ex wife's dog around and letting her control every aspect of his life; look at the big Lebowski and Brandt letting bunny walk all over them; look at the nihilists who turn out to just be fake toughs without a clue. The closest the movie comes to a strong male is Jackie Treehorn, and he's not presented as a man but as the embodiment of the media, represented as pornography. This is why he doesn't fit the cokiue scheme of the film, being one of the only characters who wears vivid bright colours as opposed to muted pastels and greys
