What the fuck happened to Jeffries?
Why did that monkey near ending say 'Judy?'?
What is the role of the ring?
Who was that lady when Desmond was drinking Good Mornin' America in the beginning?

Why did Laura feel like she had a multiple personality disorder? Was she already possessed by another Lodge entity?

I appreciate the pace the show is unfolding at and it's been fantastic so far, but it's very frustrating having to wait a week in between each episode when things are unfolding so slowly. This would've been one of the few shows better served by the Netflix bingewatch ready release method.
>>
>>83752278
This. Modern TV is a fucking scam. 50 hours of GOT has nothing on say the Godfather or Shawshank. It's amazing how 2-3 hour films can tell you more about characters/settings than these time sink TV shows.

>Why did that monkey near the end sa—
We're not going to talk about Judy.

>What is the role of the ring?
In some way it seems to prevent possession by BOB, either directly or indirectly.

>Who was that lady when Desmond was drinking coffee
A nosy nelly.

>What the hell the white horse means?
What do you think?

>Why did Laura seem to have MPD?
In Lynch's works there is always the collision of disparate worlds. Light and dark, real and imagined, pretense and veracity. Laura was the focal point of these forces in Twin Peaks at that time. In her manifested all these forces, which eventually tore her apart.
>>
>>83752300
>This would've been one of the few shows better served by the Netflix bingewatch ready release method.

Netflix shows get discussed for 1 week and then fade away, you can't even have generals for it, very uncomfy
>>
>>83752162
>way too many episodes for one season?
Depends on the story, depends on the storyteller.
>>
>>83752380
Kind of irrelevant. I generally don't care much for Netflix's method of dropping it all at once, but for something like this, which was written and filmed as one long story and only split up into episodes later, it would've been appropriate.

>>
>>83752994
I think it's after the season is over
>>
>>83752973
/lit/ here, The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a piece of information was presented, the FBI agent wrote the note "Verified -TP."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Frost's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Mark Frost. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading The Secret History of Twin Peaks by MARK FROST at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to watch the second half of season 2." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "The Secret History of Twin Peaks by MARK FROST" you are, in fact, trained to watch the second half of season 2.
>>
>>83753168

>>
>>83753168
Would bolognese or carbonara sauce be better with this pasta?
>>
>>83751762

If you had actually watched the show, you'd know that the character who wrote and collected much of what's in the book, Major Briggs, talked about project bluebook and helmed a classified bluebook monitoring station in Twin Peaks. The book is just going into more detail about why he was there in town and the history of paranormal events that have centered on Twin Peaks and many in some way relate to the lodges.

I know you wanted the missing 25 years of muh comfy coffee and donuts, but that's just too fucking bad anon.

Its very exciting to see mark frost finally getting some credit, he deserves it way more than David Lynch. David Lynch for the most part is a hack who treats his actors like shit. I think they should have included Michael J Anderson, no matter the cost. He was the face of the show. If you showed a picture of Cooper to people maybe they will know what it is from but they might also think its from failed movie Blue Velvet. Where do I even begin, the characters are instantly forgettable. There is nothing interesting, fascinating or funny about them, they are simply bad. Most of them are new characters, and we only see very few of the original cast. And even the ones that were originally captivating are now grotesquely dumb-ed down and unpleasant. Cooper is now possessed by Bob and walks the earth as the greasy and leathery. There is the good Cooper who was trapped in the Black Lodge who most likely suffered some serious blows to the head, because he acts constantly bewildered by everything and can only repeat words other people say to him. Think of Leo after he was shot, and then dumb it down 10 times. Then there is the third version of Cooper who wears crazy green jackets, and transforms into smoke, and then into a small golden ball???!!! Lucy and Andy apparently had a lobotomy and a child. Bobby is a cop?! There is a tree with a brain attached to it that talks and predicts the future. There are killer ghosts, bad CGI, women without eyes. And the worst part is that I'm not gonna talk about Judy. In fact we're not gonna talk about Judy at all, who do you think that is there??! I sure as hell want to tell you everything but I ain't got a whole lot to go on, but I will tell you one little bitty thing: Judy is positive about this. Listen up and listen carefully, I've been to one of their meetings, it was above a convenience store, it was a dream, we live inside a dream, hell god baby damn no!! I found somethin in Seattle at Judy's and then there they were and they sat quietly for hours and I followed ugghh... ohhhh... oww owww... ring, the ring. May, february, nineteen eight nine aaa Wha?! oh, mister jefferies oh the shit it come out of my ass, Santa Maria, where did you go?! oh uh uh ouh! Ayudeme! Ayudeme, Look, I get it. David Lynch's work isn't for everyone. It's peculiar and abstract and speaks to a particular type of movie goer. And it's OK, we don't all have to like the same things.

Let's be honest Mulholland Drive will always be Lynch's magnum opus. It's what he worked towards his whole career and everything after it had been victory laps. Right now I'd rank this season next to Inland Empire. It's weird, complex and has lots of interesting scenes but it doesn't hit that sweet spot like Mulholland did.

>Lost Highway first
You're probably the first anon I've ever seen have this opinion. Please explain. To me it feels like a first draft of Mulholland Drive. All the themes and visual metaphors from dual identity to kafkaesque damnation are less on-the-nose in Mulholland Drive and Bill Pullman sucks ass compared to Naomi Watts. I didn't care what happened to him at all because he didn't seem to either.
>>

*One more thing: Mulholland's plot structure is far superior to Lost Highway imo. Bill Pullman goes to death row for his wife's murders and conjures a fantasy version of himself, this is told chronologically and obvious right away. In Mulholland Drive we start with the fantasy and only switch to the real Naomi Watts in the final scenes. Which makes it much more intriguing because you have to put together the pieces and clues by yourself while watching it.

Lost Highway is more interesting to me because the character of Fred Madison is more relatable and the mystery is more exciting. Much better than the last act of Mulholland Drive, "oh wait the first two hours were literally just a dream." I like Mulholland a lot, but Lost Highway dealt with the themes and concepts better and more effectively. Plus, god-tier soundtrack and the cinematography and general look of the film was much better.

Inland Empire is basically what Lynch has always been about: he thinks of cool scenes, and works out the connective tissue for a feature film later. But with Inland, he didn't do any of that, he just shot scenes he liked and then at the end shot a bit of a story to try and tie it together. And it's a masterpiece.

My theory (and this makes the Dougie parts a lot more enjoyable) is that the original Dougie was a really, really dumb, empty-headed guy---so how he's acting now isn't too different than he's acted before. He probably went into work severely hungover before. And we know that his work efficiency average or below average, since his boss literally says that he sucks at completing cases compared to his coworker that he said was a liar.

This got me thinking - perhaps it was mimicking the bodies of the couple in the room. If mimicry is something it does, maybe it is the thing that creates doppelgangers.
If it is now set free in our world, maybe we'll see new doppelgangers coexisting in this world with their originals.

Through the first 5 episodes we've been introduced to new key characters beyond the limits of the town of Twin Peaks. We've also learned that the reach of the Black Lodge and its entities is far more than something weird in the woods in the sleepy Pacific north west town. I believe that the first chunk of the season is going to introduce us to to a new cast of characters as well as give us a better understanding of the implications of the lodges before the story eventually converges back to the town of Twin Peaks.
What will bring everyone back?
A murder of course.
Becky will be found dead about halfway through the season and the circumstances will be both eerily similar to the other suspicious murders across the country that we've seen so far, as well as harken similarities to Laura Palmer. By this time Coop will be back to his old self and the FBI will be called in to help solve the case.
The good coop/bad coop story line could be an overarching struggle/battle throughout the series but it would be cool if bad coop (Bob) became a Hannibal Lector type figure for the FBI throughout the season from the prison cell working on behalf of the black lodge but also wanting to resist returning to it.
We won't get a satisfying resolution as to who killed Becky as Lynch never wanted the Laura Palmer case solved in the original. However we may get a resolution to the good coop/bob story line.
This is just my two cents and hopes for how the season plays out.

'm never going to outright lose faith in David Lynch no matter where the season goes because I ultimately think he has a vision and he deserves a full season to see it realized. With that said, I don't know how much longer I can possibly last watching a show without any real direction or context for anything. This mostly has to do with the fact that it feels nothing like the original show. I never expected to get a revival that felt just like the early 90's show, but there's barely any tie ins to the tone at all. I think part of this derives from the way Lynch decided to film the show. He apparently filmed the entire 18 episodes as one long movie, and then consequently edited it down to individual episodes, which I think is the reason that none of the scenes tend to feel connected. I can only assume he wishes for the season to feel like one movie experience, but then why not just drop it on a streaming service? I feel as though the original series had the ability to stand as a binge series and a weekly mystery. This week's episode presented plenty of new characters like those played by Amanda Seyfried, Jane Levy, Jim Belushi, Karl Makinen, and Caleb Landry Jones. All of which seem to play some sort of pivotal role this season, but surprise, no roles are overtly revealed. Bits and pieces of information here and there are given, like Dougie's wedding ring being inside the dead body at the morgue, or even Coop's/Dougie's confusion at hearing the word "agent". Again, I'm still invested, but it's no longer a delight to merely see the return of characters, I feel like I need to see some progression. Lynch can still provide some confusion and misdirection, but a direction is needed nonetheless.

Some semblance of regular narrative made this episode an improvement over the blithering episodes 2,3 and 4. Unfortunately, the writing remains poor. Not only is the story uninteresting, the pace also remains absurdly slow. Lynch may be influenced by Gus Van Sant's later works but, like Van Sant, he is terrible at doing slow cinema. Of all the side-plots, the Dougie one remains the worst, but none of the other ones are gripping either. The inclusion of random and pointless scenes, like the argument between Truman and his wife, makes the bad story even worse. Lynch also revisits his usual obsessions: drugs, violence, the dark underbelly of suburbia etc etc. Yawn. He generally appears to have lost his edge. The scene where Evil Cooper haunts the prison he's been held, is taken out of a second-rate horror movie. The unexpected highlight was Jacoby's vlog, a disjointed but entertaining scene. But let's face it, this new Twin Peaks has none of the charm either of the old show, or of Lynch's best works.

I'm not sure if "enjoyable"' is the right word for this series yet, since so much is still unknown, and so many of the characters and stories are still almost completely undeveloped, but it is interesting, I guess. But what puzzles me is not what is in the series so far, but what is not: the music. Did they run out of money for a proper soundtrack with proper music? A big part of the mood and appeal of the original series was the almost perfect use of both an atmospheric, haunting score with some quirky, funky, jazz and swing music to set the various scenes. Here, we get the occasional atmospheric, moody background noise, and . . . nothing else, just silence. Painful, awkward silence in scene after scene. Even scenes meant to be darkly funny instead come off as just painful, awkward, and unfunny because they are completely silent -- no backing music at all. Nothing to set the mood. Nothing to punctuate the humor. Just awkward, boring silence in scene after scene. I don't need constant musical cues, but the absolute silence in scene after scene thus far has gone beyond interesting or unsettling to just plain empty and boring. Given the phenomenal use of music in the original series, this is a puzzling choice. Did they not have the budget this time around? Did someone forget to add the music during post-production? There's good weird, and then there's just weird. The lack of music is the latter.

Literally why do plebs say this

Maybe the first episode does but after that it's pretty clear that Cooper is making his way back to Twin Peaks slowly but surely, Evil Cooper is going to try to escape from jail and kill him, and the other characters will be on either side of this conflict.

Look, I get it. David Lynch's work isn't for everyone. It's peculiar and abstract and speaks to a particular type of movie goer. And it's OK, we don't all have to like the same things. Not everyone likes Tarkovski, Ingmar Berman or Bella Tarr. However, even when talking about art, that is inherently subjective, there are still ways to judge it and rate it. The 3 directors I mentioned are all unique and strange, but their work is cohesive and although abstract, gives you something to work with. Season 3 is nothing like that. It's an incomprehensible, self sufficient, insulting, patronizing claptrap. It's like someone gave David Lynch the most exotic and potent drugs, and then filmed his nightmares. It is disjointed and pointless, it's a deformed parody of the original show, it's the evil doppelganger of the first 2 seasons. I spent most of the time staring in disbelief at the screen, feeling like I was on crazy pills. Don't I get it anymore? Is this what I have been waiting for 25 years? Is David Lynch possessed by Bob? I guess we'll never know…

Are there many repeated scenes from FWWM in missing pieces or is it entirely new?
>>
>>83756027
Lost Highway is cooler. I really don't care about some lesbo's Hollywood failure story, and the almost prissy decor, attitude and aesthetic of the first half of the movie is borderline annoying. Meanwhile, an off kilter sax player who murdered a man and his wife and may have caught on to some porno his wife did long ago, in a drab and labyrinthine apartment, with lots of sex scenes and NIN tracks is just infinitely more interesting.

Lost Highway is good, but it's a little boring, a little too easy, everything is dark, murder and madness and floozies and thugs, there's no contrast, no play, no lingering sense of mystery. Mulholland Drive is not so simple as people make it out to be, it's this free floating dislocated dreamscape of hopes and dreams and abstract lurking horror. and scenes like Winkie's, Silencio, The Cowboy, and the musical audition are some of Lynch's best.

One thing that always puts me off when I watch Lost Highway is how a lot of it is edited, especially towards the beginning. The first like 20 minutes has a lot of scenes fade to black and it gets tiresome after a little with with every scene ending like that. I think it gets better later on but up until he's put in jail the editing kind of gets on my nerves.

Season 3 feels a lot like Mulholland Drive in that it just cuts to scene after scene. It can feel a bit schizophrenic but I prefer it to fading to black all the time.

I like Inland Empire better than both though.
>>
>>83760197
I don't know how you can see that in Mulholland Drive but not Lost Highway. The underlying concepts driving both movies are fairly similar. We know just as much about the "true" narrative in Lost Highway as we do for the one in Mulholland Drive. We don't know how much of what we're seeing is stream-of-consciousness by Fred, or variation of something he knew or saw, or straight up what he knew or saw. We know he isn't stable, but we don't know if the affair took place, if there was a porno involved, or if the murders and execution even really went down. You also have a mystical connotation to some parts, like the "far east" comment by the mystery man or the mystery man himself along with the mirror scenes and dark hallways.
>>
>>83760262
first part of Lost Highway is actually my favorite. the slow brewing tension in that claustrophobic house set is great. I also love that first sex scene and that off the rails sax scene where he blows his way into some kind of transcendence.

this. only pleb 'LYNCHED' posters dismiss Straight Story. Lynch working solely as a director interpreting a screenplay is very different to Lynch being left to his own devices. It's also pretty much the only time Lynch devotes himself wholly to a loving recreation of his nostalgic americana vision without making it all deranged and fucked up

lost highway is darker and that's what i find less interesting. the same script could be directed by david ficnher or christopher nolan and nobody'd skip a beat. it's very tactile straightforward horror.
i think the difference is lost highway is a claustrophobic film about paranoid obsession and entrapments and worlds getting smaller until they have to be painfully left behind. it's the psychodrama of a man trapped in a relationship, trapped in prison, trapped in his mind.
mulholland drive is the antithesis, a film about dreams and films as dreams, opportunity, possibility, the unfolding purgatorial paradise of LA by night. it's about a woman whose world is about losing oneself in illusion and the whole film reflects this. the darkness in mulholland drive is overt towards the end but for the most part it is a creeping internal horror like in silencio, a simple doubting of the dream.
