Well the film is made by John Pilger, who has a bit of a left-wing bias throughout his films so take this with a grain of salt, but according to doc the IMF basically makes the majority of its profit by working with the World Bank to sell third world autocrats, who have usually been propped up the US intelligence community in the first place for geopolitical reasons, on taking out massive amounts of loans for "development." The implication, which Pilger backs up with evidence such as internal documents, including one from the Trilateral Commission, is that these global finance institutions know that these dictators will use the money to enrich themselves and their cronies rather than actually help their countries, and then place the debt burden on their citizens.

There's also a sub-line throughout which talks about these instits role in getting legislation like NAFTA and in turn TPP passed, to open up economic borders and make international banking flow more smoothly.

I watched a movie called The Verdict last week that was phenomenal. It's about a drunk, ambulance-chasing lawyer who finally catches a winnable case and he almost throws it away with his own recklessness but gets his feet back under him.

Directed by Sidney Lumet, written by David Mamet and starring Paul Newman and Charlotte Rampling. Just an absolutely superb cast and crew, I'm surprised I hadn't seen it before.
