Why is this show good?

I guess the main problem I'm feeling is, while I get the conflict (though they've done their best to be vague about it all - or why the main character doesn't just walk away), I don't really see where it's going. Do they fight with fists? Are they actually trying to combat each other? Is there some deus ex superpower that we don't know about that is going to show up and save the day?

And I'm sick of all these cheesy ass 10 minute vignettes. It's killing the pace.
