I read the reports and it still doesn't add up.

I'm not trying to be an asshole, I just don't understand how a vehicle could sneak up on him like that with no time for him to react.

or he was murdered.

>An upcoming fan documentary film aims to bring the female part of the Star Wars fandom to the forefront. The passion project titled Looking for Leia – referring to Carrie Fisher’s iconic character Princess turned General Leia Organa will highlight women who have a deep passion for the space opera and ask them how a science-fiction film franchise has impacted their lives.

>The force behind the documentary is self-confessed fan and filmmaker Annalise Ophelian. She recently spoke to CBR and provided some details on how this passion project came to be. As it turns out, Ophelian got the idea from her own interactions with other female fans during 2015 Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California. At one point, she says that she even wanted Fisher to partake in the project but given her untimely passing, Ophelian now relates the actress as some kind of Force ghost guiding them to finish the project:

>“Originally, I conceived of it as a sort of road trip in which I would go around and talk to female Star Wars fans, and I was convinced I would culminate with finding some way of getting Carrie Fisher to sit down and talk with me on camera. I was already starting to think, “How do I get Fisher’s people to let her be a part of this? How much of the film will I have to show her to get her to come on board?” Then when she passed last December, I was just gutted. I don’t know that I’ve ever grieved so much for a person that I didn’t know, like so many people. I already had my tickets to Celebration Orlando and I said, “That’s it. I can’t make the film now,” and my partner’s like, “Absolutely you have to make the film.” So it shifted with my imagination of what the narrative was going to be, but also been kind of wonderful, because I do feel like Carrie Fisher’s been looming like a Force ghost over the whole project in this really beautiful way.”

Sounds cool

If you've ever been to LA, a lot of areas are hilly as fuck. If his driveway had a bit of an incline I imagine he got out to check his mail or whatever, thought he'd put his jeep in park, and hadn't noticed as the thing rolled up and pinned him against his iron gate. It supposedly took a little while for him to die too.

Died because chrystler just cant fucking make a vehicle that isnt complete dogshit. The jeep model he drive had a completely autistic shifter knob setup. It was a fucking dial on the front console. Like a music dial. Apparently not only does the design suck ass, but there were a handful of other incidents of jeep owners having issues with the vehicle randomly slipping into neutral for no reason - with the fault being with the electronics behind the dial. Chrystler has gone as far as to offer free replacements of the unit with an actual shifter stick and doing away with their fucking retarded dial idea all together.

Anyways.
>dude has jeep running in his driveway, top of the hill
>walks down to get his mail
>jeep slips into neutral, E brake is not engaged
>jeep rolls and pins dude against metal gate infront of his driveway
>spends next couple of minutes writhing in agony helplessly as he is crushed and his lungs fill with fluid and he drowns in his own blood

And here is the gate that the dude got pinned against with his 2 ton shitbarge. Note he was hit with enough force for his body to bend the wrought iron bars. His body got smashed like a bug.

It wasnt quick either. Its probably one of the most painful, agonizing ways to go. "1 to 2 minutes" is a long fucking time to die. He got pinned, his pelvis and ribs smashed and his organs ruptured, and he lingered on that way for minutes in the most unimaginable pain. He probably tried to scream for help, but since his lungs were empty from being crushed, he could only grunt. They began to fill with fluid as he wiggled and shook and helplessly tried to escape from the inevidable. This was only the first 10 seconds. He likely was conscious for another minute. And you can bet your ass that each of those seconds felt like a god damn eternity.

Aaaand that is why you always use your ebrake on a hill.

Chrystler thought it was a good idea. All that bullshit so they could put in some extra cupholders or something not required. For those who arent into cars, chrystler (who also manufacture jeep, dodge, ram, and fiat brands) is notorious for being utterly shit in absolutely everything they do since the 90s. Literally the most jewbag, cut corners for profit auto company on the planet. They shouldnt even exist anymore. While ford and GM were able to pay back their bailouts in the 2009 financial crisis in a year or two, it took chrystler like over half a decade to repay their free taxpayer funded loan.

They are literally a failed company propped up by daddy governement. And they dont give a fuck either, which is why they pump out vehicles that break down and self destruct within a few years of leaving the lot. They just dont care. They know people are retarded and niggers will buy their chrystler 300s because the advertisement had rap music and it looks like a knockoff bentley, and soccermoms will buy their new jeeps for their """safety""" ratings, while the retard blue collar plebs will buy their dodge trucks because they are the cheapest truck to own on the market (for a good fucking reason - they break).

>blowing up brown wedding party

To be fair that wasnt entirely our fault. We were fed intentionally false info. In afghanistan its all tribal shit, like some Hatfield vs McCoy rivalry except instead of it being a few years its been going on for centuries. Some rival tribe heard about the wedding and convinced our intel guys that it was a high level taliban meeting. We scoped it out and saw men armed with AKs firing into the sky - armed men fit the narrative so we bombed them with a few 2000lb bombs and killed like 100 people.

Except those 100 people were all civilians including women and children and they were firing into the air because this is customary in their shithole culture. The most fucked up part? They did not give A SINGLE FUCK about us blowing their families to bits. Not a single shred of wanting revenge against american troops for killing them. Instead, they wanted to know which rival tribe gave us the info so they could go get revenge on them. We were just a pawn in their little tribal war. That shit is going to go on forever - and that is why afghanistan cant be conquered. The inhabitants just cant assimilate into modern civilization.

Also america can engineer shit perfectly fine, its just that our auto industry has absolutely zero incetive to be creative or invest money into their own product because they know people will keep buying their bullshit and if they dont the government will bail them out again. "Too big to fail" just gives them a free pass to cut every corner and produce the cheapest shit possible because there is zero consequences for doing so.

Sloped driveways are pretty common in L.A. Always use your parking break.

>no one heard the crash or screaming

Because the crash was probably a dull thud and didnt make a lot of noise. People maybe heard it but it wouldnt have made enough noise for anyone to get off their ass and walk down the street to see what it was. Maybe a nosey neighbor peaked out the window and saw nothing because that scene wasnt really visible unless you were infront of the house.

As for the screaming, there was none. He got blindsided. His ribcage got crushed. You cant scream if you have 2 tons of chrystler garbage pinning you down and preventing you from getting air. He probably just grunted and gurgled while wiggling his toes and fingers helplessly in panic. He didnt stand a fucking chance. Even if someone witnessed the whole thing he would probably still die from extreme bloodloss. Leaving the jeep to pin him would obviously result in him suffocating but moving it would also kill him since all his innards were smashed and the jeep was the only thing holding him together.

No. It is true that his car had retarded shifter, but different kind of retarded shifter. One that is spring loaded and automatically centers, with minimal indication on what gear it is on. Also keys in ignition warning sound was same as oh shit kind warning sound.

Bad design in regards to both ergonomics and human factors issues with indicators/warnings.

Still, neither is an excuse for not operating vehicle properly.

Add Ferrari, Maserati, Lancia and Alfa Romeo to the list.

Only competent part of the Fiat was aviation and weapons division and that was sold in 70's to form Alenia Aermachi, it is now known after rebranding as Leonardo.

Points taken, but didn't he have friends or anyone living with him in the house who might've got curious about where he went?
He was at least a C or B list guy, so he had to've had at least a handful of people wondering where the hell he was. Or even someone randomly driving by, seeing a guy pinned against a fence.
Unless he lived somewhere really private and secluded or something, the circumstances just seemed really odd.
>>
>>83738970

You dont need a steep hill to have a 4000+ pound vehicle roll down it in neutral with no brake engaged. Even the slightest incline is enough.

What probably happened is the top of the driveway was "mostly" flat, with the slightest of inclines going down to the road with it getting steeper the closer to the road it got. He probably parked there and ran back down to get his mail, and the jeep ended up in neutral somehow between his own stupidity and chrystlers total dogshit shifter design. Since it was a very slight incline it probably rolled too slow for him to hear or notice. It picked up speed as it rolled, especially as the slope began to become steeper, and slammed into his back.

He probably had no fucking clue what hit him or wtf happened. One second hes grabbing his mail - the next he is in white blinding pain all over and cant breath or move.
>>
>>83738970
It would take just a minor slope and a slow roll to kill someone. A rolling vehicle is completely silent until it picks up enough speed.

He just got the shortest end of the stick possible. He a shitty car with a fucked shifter, and forgot to engage the parking brake. It was probably nighttime so no-one saw it, and the crash probably sounded like nothing more than the bumper tapping the iron gate so no-one even knew about it till morning. The car obviously didn't go fast enough to set off an alarms or anything, but it was on an incline so it effectively squashed him to shit against the gate, then pinned him down due to the angle of the driveway.

Poor guy probably didn't even get a chance to make a sound, most likely he got blindsided and immediately had a crushed ribcage.

>>
>>83739443
it was a real gun.

>In the scene in which Lee was accidentally shot, Lee's character walks into his apartment and discovers his fiancée being beaten and raped by thugs. Actor Michael Massee's character fires a .44 Magnum revolver at Lee as he walks into the room.[10] A previous scene using the same gun had called for inert dummy cartridges fitted with bullets (but no powder or primer) to be loaded in the revolver for a close-up scene; for film scenes which utilize a revolver (where the bullets are visible from the front) and do not require the gun to actually be fired, dummy cartridges provide the realistic appearance of actual rounds. Instead of purchasing commercial dummy cartridges, the film's prop crew created their own by pulling the bullets from live rounds, dumping the powder charge then reinserting the bullets. However, they unknowingly or unintentionally left the live primer in place at the rear of the cartridge. At some point during filming, the revolver was apparently discharged with one of these improperly-deactivated cartridges in the chamber, setting off the primer with enough force to drive the bullet partway into the barrel, where it became stuck (a condition known as a squib load). The prop crew either failed to notice this or failed to recognize the significance of this issue.

The warning sound for "doors open, car not in park" apparently was the same for "doors open, keys in ignition". Usually if its in gear/not in park, newer cars will emit a single, steady tone. If you forget your keys in the ignition, usually its just that slow steady beeping/chiming.

Apparently chrystler decided it would be fun to use the same noise for both scenarios, so he never got an audio warning that his car was not in park like anyone would expect of a brand new fucking auto.
>>
>>83739817

This.

I've been around a car that was left in neutral and someone pulled the e-brake off. This was on a slight hill. It moved very quickly and there was no time to react. I could see an event like this killing someone easily.

Also what the other anon said is true, it is totally silent.
>>
>>83737499
So--just to clarify--what we're saying happened is that he didn't use the handbrake, but did put it in park, proceeded to walk away while the car was stationary, and then the mechanism for keeping the car in park failed/slipped while he had his back turned?

It's plausible and all, just trying to determine if I have an accurate mental picture of how the fuck this could go down.
>>
>>83739679

Exactly.
>>
>>83741472

No, he tried to put it in park, but didn't use the shifter right since the design is a little whacky.

Gotta hold the button down, move the shifter, release button. He didn't do it right and the shifter went to neutral instead.

Absolutely this. I've stepped out of a laundry van I was driving in college and forgot to put the brake on, it very slowly started rolling but within 10 seconds it was starting to roll quick. Ran and jumped back in and hit the brake in time, but a few seconds more and it would have smashed into a gate hard. I can definitely see how this could happen.

Also the problem with the Jeep's shifter was documented in lots of other cases before.

Hello. Chrysler employee here. TLDR - He was too drunk to use the shifter properly.

Disclaimer: I love Gene Roddenberry, and nearly the entire body of the Star Trek universe. I classify Yelchin's death as comparable to the loss of Cobain or James Dean.

Thesis: The shift lever was redesigned in this vehicle. Instead of the standard shifting motion you are all familiar with, the vehicle Yelchin was driving had a "click-style" shifter on it. During my day at the counter, I have a large number of owners (senior citizens especially) that cannot figure out how to smoothly put their vehicle into part. They have learned over the last ~20 years that putting a vehicle into park requires a single, smooth, upward motion. BUT BUT BUT on their fancy goddamn shiny Vehicle, they are now required to "double-click" their shifter forward to fully park the vehicle. The problem is that the owners ARE NOT USED to the new style of shifter. They single-click when they should double-click. Also, drunk people single-click when the should double-click.... :(
The recall fix (Code - S27) came out literally the Saturday before Yelchin died.... We have done a few of these recalls, and they basically make the vehicle shift into Park when you sneeze hard enough. (Makes shifter more sensitive.)

More TLDR - If you have ever watched an old person fail to understand how double-clicking a mouse button works, you now understand how Yelchin died.

Philosophy Question: Is the factory at fault when the consumer can't learn how to use the vehicle properly?

>Philosophy Question: Is the factory at fault when the consumer can't learn how to use the vehicle properly?

Depends on things like instructions and general human interface design. Human factors, are warnings proper or do same general purpose warning sound for everything. Modern cars owners manuals pretty shitty and low on details. Then there is business management making really cool decisions, like when tire pressure sensors became mandatory, most manufacturers made the system so that there is memory only to save unique id's four fucking tires. To reset tire pressure sensors into authorized maintenance you go and fork out money or get used to a fucking permanent warning, we aren't living in 60's anymore and computer memory isn't issue.

Even professionals tend look down human factors module on training, both pilots and maintainers.

Japanese car manuals have by far the best illustrations. (For semi-obvious reasons.)

But for real, new owners with that shifter should've had to take a 10-minute class or something...

Jeep owners get this glassy-eyed look whenever they see a chrome JEEP logo on anything. These Jeep owners (for better or worse) tend to overlook a lot a things due to a bad case of "Jeep Passion". It does help to sell them cars tho...

That is 100% the wrong kind of shifter.

If Yelchin had a shifter like that, there is a 1000% probability he would still be alive.

>Japanese car manuals have by far the best illustrations. (For semi-obvious reasons.)

Regardless where the manufacturer comes from modern owners manuals are tiny and half of those are filled with fucking legalese. There isn't specifications for things like windscreen wiper length, basically register to manufacturers internet service or just google it.

Things like making people go for maintenance as mandatory thing after tire change is down right stupid for safety perspective. It is basically conditioning clients to drive with warning lights on by default at least twice a year in places where you actually have seasons and winter tires that come with it.

>But for real, new owners with that shifter should've had to take a 10-minute class or something...

Yep. Something that should be either in manual or dealer should give instruction.

The fact that original Chekov outlived the reboot version is kinda ironic, then again original movies will outlive reboot ones.

Actually she died because of all the coke, heroin, and other shit she did when she was young. She treated her body like an amusement park as a youth, and when she got older she tried treating it like a temple, but the damage was already done.
Getting back into shape probably contributed to he heart attack, but her organs were probably about to go on strike anyway.
TLDR;

I have a work truck with a dial shifter, same as the Cherokee. Late last year I got out of it thinking I'd left it in park and it drove away. I'm still hearing about that one. There are so many incidents like this that the NTSB is investigating the design.

I resent that
my mantits are freshly washed

And I don't say that as an indictment of social justice warriors as a whole, they have a real place in the internet culture to keep us honest. Trolling wouldn't be funny if everyone was as cynical as them and SJW's wouldn't have fun calling out the trolls who tragically believe their own awful shared thoughts if everyone believed the same thing.

It's unfair to waylay the Death of someone on a group like that especially someone like fishure who was really the best of both worlds. But be honest, forgetting all of the genuine shit that happens to women both culturally and socially, coupled with the fact that her death was a result of a lifetime of drug use and abuse of her own body. There was a major hypocracy there in no one caring about mark hamil having to lose weight for Disney and everyone applauding carries decision to ignore it

A recall notice for a Jeep Grand Cherokee was mailed to actor Anton Yelchin seven days after he was killed in a freak roll away accident, his family’s attorney said.

Yelchin’s parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the vehicle’s manufacturer, Fiat Chrysler, as well as ZF North America, which manufactured the gear shift. Fiat Chrysler recalled more than 800,000 vehicles in April, after receiving hundreds of rollaway complaints.
