Seriously. I'm a big fan of the source material, and changes aside, it wasn't such a bad capeflick. I honestly don't know why people hate it. It was a fun, cape summer movie.

Johnny was funny, Ben was his usual angsty self and had good bits due to Chilkis, Alba and... the other guy were okay (seriously, the guy playing Reed has to be the unluckiest of the actors) and McMahon's Doom was okay as an AU (science sorcerer is the best version, but eh, he was enjoyable). He brought the hammy with him, looked European and the costume wasn't half bad.

Is it a perfect flick? No. Is it even a good film? Not really. Is it completely average and comfy though? Sure. It's like watching Suits. You're not getting anything out of it, but hey, it's a good time-passer.

Post more such flicks /tv/.

i just want a MCU movie with them that it's not an origin story ffs.
>>
>>83730979
For all of its campyness, the MCU is perfect for a family sci-fi flick like the early F4. Dunno how well they'd handle the darker aspects of the book, but old-school F4 are perfect for the MCU.

Anyway, back to pic related, is the Reed-guy the unluckiest of them? Chilkis still has SHIELD under his belt and was in Gotham. Evans is Cap. Alba, well, she starred in quite a few stuff after that. McMahon ain't some huge star, but he still has Nip/Tuck under his belt. Reed-guy completely vanished. Even the Not-Fury from FF2 went on to be Captain Holt from B99.

Yes it is, you fuck. I too am a Fantastic Four fan so I will admit what this movie got right is the characterization and interaction of the four. What it got wrong was having no plot and basically being a superhero sitcom with a forced boss battle and RUINING Doctor Doom. They clearly didnt know what the fuck to do with the four so tried to portray them as a typical superhero team, like that entire set piece on the bridge. Just shit. Sorry you have such low standards you actively seek out things that are mediocre (at best)

He was in a painfully unfunny role in Horrible Bosses 2. I feel bad for him.

Gotta say, it's fantastic.
>>
>>83731504
Jeez anon, no need to go all autistic on my ass. It gets tons of hate when it's an entirely average movie. Not good, not awful, average.

Sure, it's a bad F4 flick, but as a movie, it ain't that bad. Theve have been worse CBMs.
>>83731540
Hot damn that's bad. I liked him in Forever, and thought the show had a neat premise, but nobody watched it. Poor guy.
>>
>>83730520
I caught Rise of the Silver Surfer on tv recently. It wasn't good, but it was fun. It was a silly movie, I enjoyed it more than these super serious and violent comicbook movies and tv shows of recent years.
>>
>>83730520
>villain is established in the last 10 minutes
>rest of the movie is origin bullshit
Movie sucked even my capeshit reboot standards.

Good analogy for Fantastic Four and Josh Trank's Fant4stic
>>
>>83731715
This is about the 2005 flick. Fant4Stick was garbage. The original (the Corman version doesn't count) was campy fun.
>>
>>83730520
I think both are solid capeflicks. They're fun films that don't take themselves too seriously. And yet Doom is handled better in both films than virtually every MCU villain.

Oh god thats funny. My favorite part was when he was shipped off to latveria solely to tease fans, then came back as the exact same retarded non Doom from the first one

Movie!Doom was garbage, but like I said, McMahon was charming and hammy enough that he made it work. I guess you can say he was kinda-accurate if you take the first 10 or so issues as your source material, but that's not the Doom fans wanted to see.

I'm not a funnybook reader so if he's not enough like the source material I don't know/care. As a cape villain I thought he was good. He wasn't evil against his or a raving mad man. He was a developed character who got his shit fucked up and spiralled out of control. Then in the sequel he shows how smart and scheming he can be as he plays everyone for fools.
>>
>>83732277
Damn that's sad. To this day, even as a huge Doomfag, I still don't hate that version. Twas not a great version, but it had enough similarities that he was "good-enough".
>>83732300
The short story is that Doom is not a really evil guy. He was a peasant whose mom made a deal with the devil and whose dad died, so he grew up bitter. He and Reed developed a rivarly, Doom fucked up his face and became a sorcerer/scientist/leader of a country.

Movie!Doom had enough similarities (powerful, good looks before fucking up his face, not really that evil, obsessed with Reed) but he missed a lot of the boxes (mom, devil, magic, country).

I will agree that he had a good arc in the film though. He was a developed villain, source material aside.
>>
>>83732300
That is a very cool aspect for him in the sequel but I wanted a new villain and we didnt even get Galactus
>>
What about the last one? I never watched it but Kate Mara is in and I love her

Kate is cute but her character is one note, flat, and quite rude honestly.
>>
>>83732484
I don't think that mom/devil/magic shit would have ever made it into a film at that point in time. Hell even today I don't know if the MCU would go there. They did touch on the country part though. There wasn't reason in either film's plot to delve too deeply into it, but it was there if they had wanted to use it more in a future film.

Compared to MCU villains who are so bland and unmemorable I think Doom was handled pretty damn well, and I wish there could have been a third film to further expand upon him.
>>
>>83732658

Thanks for the advice, I like the FF more than Kate so I'll avoid this frustration

>>
>>83732779
His country and family are major parts though. He literally went to Hell and saved her soul with Doctor Strange's help. In an F4 flick that Doom does not work, that''s true. But they could easily make a Doom solo movie and treat it like a drama about a peasant-turned-King instead of a capeflick.
>>83732789
Just watch House of Cards. Nice lewds there. There's a pornstar who looks like her as well. And I mean totally looks like her. Her name is Vanessa Vixon.

I watched house of cards. In fact, I'm with her on my mind these days because of the season 5. She's not in it acting but her character is still a plot and her photo appeared a few times. So qt

If Daredevil and F4 had each come out 10 years later and worked into the cinematic universe with fucking cameos and product placement for other marvel movies they wouldn't've gotten critically slammed like they did in 2003/2005.

This shit was no worse than Civil War.

Contrarian as fuck, but ive found people with this mindset will not be convinced otherwise no matter what theyre told. Did you know theyre based on comic books where the characters coexist? Even if you were right its not somehow an inherently bad thing that the films incorporate this aspect.
>>
>>83734389
I'm not saying the MCU is necessarily a bad thing, financially it's keeping domestic box offices afloat in America.

But you can't critically pick apart a nu-Marvel movie like you could Daredevil or F4 because it has to neatly tie in to fit another movie, there's guaranteed product placement for things in future movies, cameos from shitty netflix series and a whole.

I don't feel like most of the post-2007 marvel movies can stand on their own merit with few exceptions like Winter Soldier.

This kinda ties to capeshit as a whole, comics included, they exist to sell more products and keep the viewer/reader tuned in for the next issue or movie. They have crossovers to promote interest in the other characters and this business model was simply incorporated into the films when the comics had been doing it for decades. Its capeshit 101, like criticizing a baby for crying, thats just what they do.

Ant-Man, Guadrians of the Galaxy 2, and the three captain America films are great imo but I am a comic fan so that is my bias, good sir.

Daredevil was actually a great movie butchered by editing, so it was appropriately criticized. Fantastic Four basically doesn't have a plot and im sure it would be criticized for that if it was part of the mcu. So yea.
>>
>>83734213
I honestly agree with you. In fact I think they're better than most MCU shit.

On a related note, the Ghost Rider movies were the shit.
